Journalism Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) Ohlone College seeks to employ faculty members who have a passion for teaching and learning and a strong commitment to the mission and ideals of the community college. Duties and Responsibilities

Teach Journalism in accordance with post‑secondary level established course outlines.

Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and student learning outcomes, and provide feedback to students in a timely manner.

Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (grades, syllabi, attendance reports).

Create an equity‑based and welcoming classroom environment.

Perform duties described in Board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone contact, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned at the Fremont Campus and Newark Center, online via eCampus, and/or other designated locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in journalism or communication with a specialization in journalism; OR Bachelor’s; AND Master’s in English, history, communication, literature, composition, comparative literature, or related social science, business, marketing, graphics, or photography; OR equivalent.

Commitment to community college goals/objectives of being an equity‑based and anti‑racist institution, and providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio‑economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students including those with disabilities.

Demonstrated responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and an understanding of equity‑minded practices.

Desirable Qualifications

Teaching experience at the community college level desired but not required.

Experience in using innovative teaching methods that encourage student engagement and learning.

Experience creating socially conscious syllabi, equitable classroom materials, and inclusive pedagogical practices.

Experience addressing equity issues, recent work with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other minoritized students, and willingness to examine and remediate relational practices.

Experience with course management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Ability to work successfully in a team environment.

Foreign Transcripts Transcripts issued outside the United States require a course‑by‑course analysis and an equivalency statement from a certified evaluation service. The report must be attached with the application.
