Security Specialist (Part Time) Location:

Missouri State Capitol, 201 W. Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO

Why You’ll Love This Position This highly professional position is responsible for developing and coordinating security activities and protocols for the Missouri Senate. The part‑time role is active during the legislative session (January to May) and involves providing expertise on security matters to senators and staff.

What You’ll Do

Assist senate security requests with Capitol Police, Sheriff’s Office, and Highway Patrol.

Conduct threat and risk assessments and inform law enforcement officials as necessary.

Provide safety and security recommendations for the senate chamber, gallery, committee rooms and other senate spaces.

Develop security protocols for disruptive behavior, including active shooter preparedness.

Assist in security training for senators and staff.

Support the Senate Sergeant‑at‑Arms and doorkeepers during sessions and hearings.

Maintain order during Senate sessions and committee hearings.

Be armed and hold investigative authority.

Review space plans for future renovations for security purposes.

Perform other related work as assigned.

All You Need For Success

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with ten years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement or military setting; or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. POST certification or ability to obtain it required.

Background and other related checks and evaluations passed.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to sit and stand for several hours.

Flexibility to work extended hours with minimal notice.

Knowledge of law enforcement protocols and security best practices.
