Overview
Accounts Receivable Specialist I (Reference Lab) is responsible for managing accounts receivable, ensuring accurate billing and timely collection of payments. The role includes reviewing and processing insurance claims, verifying patient information and coding for accuracy, and collaborating with internal teams to resolve payment discrepancies.
Location and Schedule City/State: Norfolk, VA
Work Shift: Multiple shifts available. On-site at Sentara Patient Accounting Building or remote after training approval. Full time, 40 hours per week (day shift).
Responsibilities
Manage accounts receivable for the Reference Lab, ensuring accurate billing and timely collection of payments.
Review and process insurance claims, verify patient information, and ensure coding accuracy.
Communicate with insurance providers, patients, and internal teams to resolve payment discrepancies or issues.
Perform account reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and apply appropriate payments or adjustments.
Maintain patient account balances, assist with follow-up on unpaid claims, and issue statements as needed.
Ensure adherence to healthcare billing regulations and policies; assist with month-end closing activities and financial reporting.
Collaborate with other departments (billing, coding, customer service) to streamline AR processes.
Address and resolve patient or insurance inquiries related to billing and payment issues.
Possess strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and solid understanding of healthcare billing practices and payer systems.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience: 1 year of healthcare-related experience in Revenue Cycle; preferred experience in Billing, Follow-Up, insurance, Registration and/or Payor processes
Preferred knowledge of Payor Websites
Experience with behind-the-scenes Accounts Receivable collections from Payors (not patient-facing) is a plus
