Manager, Grants and Capital Assets Accounting Overview

The Manager, Grants and Capital Assets Accounting is responsible for managing and maintaining the college’s fixed assets, general accounting operations of fund budgets, liabilities, and financial transactions. The role develops and oversees internal controls, budgets, fiscal policies and procedures, and financial reporting for the college’s fixed assets and liabilities, while supervising staff.

Responsibilities

Review, monitor, and report on assigned funds, budget variances, and projects to ensure fiscal oversight, comprehensive fund management, and compliance with college-wide goals.

Monitors, evaluates, and prepares budget amendments and reports as required by state, federal, and Board of Trustee requirements.

Assist with coordination and development of the college’s annual budget for specific funds or fund groups.

Establish and maintain internal controls in compliance with GAAP, GASB, Florida Statutes, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

Supervise staff, including hiring, coaching, mentoring, training, development, scheduling, and performance evaluation.

Perform financial system maintenance; approve, audit, and record revenues and expenditures against funds.

Manage and respond to financial and programmatic audit requests and findings.

Provide fiscal oversight of the institution’s capital assets and prepare the Capital Assets section of the Annual Financial Report, including detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation.

Oversee analysis and recommendations for disposal of fixed assets based on schedule and depreciation.

Assist in the year‑end close by performing adjustments, accruals, reclassifications, reconciliations, and audit schedules.

Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets and assigned funds.

Prepare, review, and approve journal entries.

Review and approve requisitions, purchase orders, and bills for college’s restricted funds and capital assets.

Provide departmental and college-wide fiscal training.

Perform other duties as may be required or assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.

Four years of professional experience in accounting.

One year of experience supervising staff or leading project teams.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working with fund accounting in a public, nonprofit, or higher education environment.

Experience with capital asset tracking and financial audits.

Experience with an enterprise financial system, such as Oracle PeopleSoft, Banner, or Workday ERP.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of accounting, finance, and automated records systems, including GAAP, GASB, and Florida Statutes.

Ability to understand and manage budgets, financial reports, grants, contracts, capital assets, and short- and long- term liabilities.

Proficiency with Oracle PeopleSoft Financials or other enterprise financial systems.

Strong analytical, process orientation, critical thinking, and attention to detail.

Ability to plan work activities, schedules, priorities, resource utilization, and manage projects.

Leadership and motivation skills to achieve objectives.

Discretion in handling confidential information.

Ability to develop and manage relationships at all organizational levels and influence stakeholders.

Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and proficiency in videoconferencing (Teams/Zoom).

Ability to produce financial reports and explain data variances.

Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast- paced, multi-priority environment.

Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Work Environment and Special Considerations

Office-based indoor environment.

May be required to travel between campuses and other local destinations.

May occasionally work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

May need to assist with physical inventory and perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and climbing stairs or ladders, or working in enclosed spaces.

Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule Competitive salary:

Beginning at $57,529

commensurate with education and experience.
