Employment Specialist – Workforce Development
LifeWorks of Austin, TX is looking for an
Employment Specialist
to join our Workforce Development team! An Employment Specialist provides community‑based supported employment and education services to youth and young adults using evidence‑based Individual Placement & Support (IPS) model. The role promotes client recovery and wellness by helping them obtain and maintain meaningful employment that aligns with their strengths and career goals. This full‑time, non‑exempt position offers competitive pay ($24.86‑$27.17/hr) and benefits including 24 PTO days, 11 paid holidays, a premium‑free employee medical plan, 50% retirement match, and more. Responsibilities
Provide client‑centered, trauma‑informed supported employment services to diverse individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, mental health issues, substance misuse, early pregnancy/parenthood, etc. Ensure fidelity to the IPS model through collaboration, field monitoring, training, and job shadowing. Transport clients after hours to job interviews, shadowing, and additional services as needed. Attend job fairs and community outreach events to promote the program. Conduct at least 6 in‑person employer contacts per week to develop relationships and identify opportunities for caseload clients. Apply interviewing and assessment skills to understand client preferences, work history, and vocational functioning. Develop individualized employment/education plans, set goals with clients, and adjust plans according to client needs. Assist clients with job readiness skills, resume writing, interview preparation, and soft‑skill development. Provide administrative support: intake, case documentation, data entry, client files, service plans, referrals, and required funding compliance. Collaborate with staff across LifeWorks for coordinated wrap‑around services and employer support. Maintain accurate, timely records and ensure compliance with funding sources and regulatory requirements. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mental health, social services, business, or related field. Minimum 2 years of related experience working with youth and young adults, preferably in employment or related services; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). At least 1 year of experience managing a database tool for client data entry. About LifeWorks
