NM Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) works to protect the people of New Mexico and the nation through a comprehensive and coordinated program of mitigating hazards, preparing for emergencies, preventing attacks, and recovering from disasters regardless of cause. Our department prepares for a wide variety of emergencies, including wildfires, flooding, health crises, and domestic attacks. When necessary, the state assists localities whose capabilities are overwhelmed, and DSHEM serves as the conduit for federal assistance. Our work in emergency management is coordinated around the five mission areas of the National Preparedness Goal: prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.

DHSEM also coordinates with state and local law enforcement, as well as federal partners like the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, to obtain, analyze, and distribute intelligence on possible threats to public safety. Additionally, our department facilitates and distributes tens of millions of dollars in federal grants to New Mexico communities every year. DHSEM also works closely with customs and border officials to secure our nation's borders.

Why does the job exist?

This position will provide specialized technical support, configuration, deployment, maintenance, upgrade, troubleshooting, disaster mitigation, and disaster recovery for desktop and peripheral systems, operations, LAN/WAN in the Department's statewide enterprise environment. It will serve as the primary expert at the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management on matters server/systems management, support services and applications. This position is the lead technologist for the agency and is accountable for all IT Systems management. This position is also IT support for our SFMO office located in Albuquerque and the Fire Training Academy in Socorro. Perform planning and analysis; agency/user coordination. Serve as Emergency Management team member in emergency response and recovery.

How does it get done?

Participate in the technical analysis and implementation of enterprise desktop systems, peripherals, and solutions that provide effective and reliable computing environment in support of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHSEM) goals and objectives. Identify track, control, and document technical issues.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidate can:

- Build, install, configure, analyze, tune, and troubleshoot information systems to achieve optimum performance levels. - Resolve difficult system problems - Lead and configure the design of system and network security. - Manage hardware, software, and utilities for installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments. - Monitor and analyze resource usage to recommend/develop enhancements to system capabilities and performance. - Compare, evaluate and implement new technologies and integrate systems into the computing environment.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in systems administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Subject to recall during disasters and other emergencies. Work on weekends, holidays and shift work may be required during emergencies and/or disaster situations or as business requires.
