The Accounting Manager oversees daily accounting operations, manages and mentors staff, and ensures financial records are accurate, timely, and compliant with regulations.

Location: Kalamazoo, MI

Department: Finance

Reports To: Controller

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

• Oversees the work of accounting staff
• Provides training
• Offers guidance and support to accounting team and department leaders
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the accounting department
• Timely communications with Controller and Department Leaders

Accounting Operations

• Ensures accuracy of financials
• Reviews and reconciles accounts, journal entries and financial statements
• Ensures integrity of the accounting department's work
• Oversees daily accounting processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and month‑end/year‑end close
• Helps prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for management review
• Coordinate with and support internal and external auditors by providing information and documentation
• Coordinate and lead the annual physical inventory process
• Other activities as assigned

Compliance

• Ensures all financial activities comply with relevant laws, regulations and accounting standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 7+ years of experience as an accountant in finance department experience.
• 3+ years in a leadership role on a finance team.
• 3-4 years public accounting experience.
• CPA/CMA preferred or working toward certification.
• Experience working in finance at a manufacturing‑based organization preferred.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Proven player/coach leadership style while managing systems and processes.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
• Experience with NetSuite a plus.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.
• Ability to balance tactical execution with strategic process improvement in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.
