Entry Level Substation P& C Engineer
Job Summary: Power Engineers is currently seeking an Entry Level Substation Protection & Control (P& C) Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Augusta office located in Hallowell, Maine. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (new employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).
Roles and Responsibilities
The position includes working individually within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standards.
Perform the detailed P& C design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but are not limited to:
One-line diagrams
P& C equipment selection
Protection and control schematics
Wiring diagrams
SCADA
Communications
Material lists
Conduit and cable sizing/routing
AC and DC systems calculations and sizing
Engineering Documentation such as Requests for Information (RFIs), Scope Documents, Equipment Specifications, Protection and Control Descriptions, and Construction Specifications
Work with CAD designers/drafters to develop drawing packages
Coordinate designs with other disciplines such as Substation Physical, Structural, and Civil
Participate in quality assurance and quality control programs
Contribute to engineering proposal development
Contribute to engineering project scheduling and budget management
Required Education/Experience
BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university preferably with a power option
Understanding of substation equipment and its function
Good command of the Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel and Word
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Candidate must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus
Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, vendor drawings, and such
Engineer Intern (EI) certificate or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
