Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
Period of Performance: 04 January 2026 – 13 January 2031.
Type of Employment: Full-time 40 hours per week.
Estimated Pay: $28.00 – $30.00 per hour based on experience.
Pay Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Holidays.
Paid Time Off: 80 hours, occurring on day one.
Sick Leave: 56 hours, occurring on day one.
Travel: Travel is required.
Working Hours The Biological Laboratory Technician will perform tasks during the Government's primary operational hours, Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM through 6:00 PM. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Telework may be authorized with coordination with the COR and authorized by the Contracting Officer (CO).
Summary of Duties The Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) is the medical certification, education, research, and occupational medicine arm of the Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM) under the auspices of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAR) Office of Aviation Safety (AVS). The Aerospace Medical Research Division of CAMI (AAM-600) is located at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC), in Oklahoma City, OK. The Aerospace Medical Research Division accomplishes the following core functions in support of the FAA's aviation safety mission. The Biological Laboratory Technician will support the Forensic Sciences Section in processing incoming toxicology specimens (primarily biological specimens including blood, urine, and tissues), etc.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher with coursework in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
Three (3) years related experience with an associate’s degree; no experience required with a B.S. degree.
Knowledge of principles and practices of biology, chemistry, and forensic toxicology.
Proficiency in laboratory techniques for biological sample preparation and chemical analysis.
Familiarity with analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC, GC‑MS, LC‑MS/MS) and associated software.
Understanding laboratory safety, biohazard handling, and quality assurance & control procedures.
Ability to maintain accurate records, follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure chain‑of‑custody integrity.
Skill in troubleshooting laboratory equipment and interpreting analytical data.
Copies of all certifications and resumes must be forwarded with your application.
Attire Biological Laboratory Technician is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved).
Duties and Responsibilities
Receive and log incoming toxicology specimens, primarily biological materials such as blood, urine, and tissues, ensuring proper chain-of-custody and documentation.
Prepare biological samples for toxicological analysis using validated protocols and laboratory safety procedures.
Perform data entry for toxicology batches and individual case records in laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Generate preliminary toxicology reports for scientific review and official signature, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Distribute finalized toxicology reports to appropriate internal and external recipients, maintaining confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
Maintain, organize, and archive toxicology case files in accordance with FAA retention policies and forensic standards.
Scan batch records, case documentation, and analytical worksheets for secure electronic storage and retrieval.
Assist chemists and toxicologists in daily laboratory operations, including instrument maintenance, method development, and research initiatives.
Support the laboratory's accreditation efforts (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025) through participation in audits, proficiency testing, and quality assurance activities.
Prepare toxicology documentation in response to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, ensuring redaction and formatting meet legal and agency standards.
