Patient Service Associate – Periop / Patient Transporter MedStar Health

Ensure the smooth flow of patients into and out of the perioperative department. Provide interdisciplinary support, obtain and record throughput data, and coordinate supply chain and equipment maintenance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate and facilitate the flow of patients in a timely manner in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.

Obtain lab and imaging data from computers for nursing and medical staff.

Log patient orders into the computer system.

Update daily OR schedule and communicate with appropriate personnel to maintain accurate department throughput.

Answer telephone calls and convey information to the appropriate staff member.

Maintain accurate documentation of patient flow through the department, including entering data into hospital information systems.

Coordinate supply chain activities—monitor stock levels, order/credit supplies, store office, patient care, medical record, and nutrition supplies.

Operate and maintain office and communication equipment (fax, printers, telephones, computers); initiate maintenance or repair orders as needed.

Coordinate with Health Information Management for safe storage of medical record documents.

Notify the Charge Nurse and appropriate departments when service is needed for patient care equipment.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to unit, departmental, and organizational objectives.

Support unit, department, and organizational goals, including mission, vision, and values.

Attend meetings and committees; represent the department

and

hospital in community outreach efforts.

Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred.

1–2 years of clerical experience in a fast‑paced environment, preferably in healthcare.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Medical/surgical terminology.

Experience working with multiple telephone lines; office skills, including automated systems, basic computer skills, and pneumatic tube system.

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a high‑level, often stressful environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of PICIS is desirable.

Compensation Salary range: $20,170 – $35,040

Location Arlington, VA – Full‑time
