Position Description

We are currently looking for an Automation Technologist I/II/III for our Houston, TX office. This Engineering position provides advanced automation support to Engineering and Construction project teams. Responsibilities will include all phases of electrical and control systems project design, testing, and commissioning, including reviewing P&IDs, electrical one lines, conduit and cable schedules, creating and reviewing facility instrumentation technical specifications and procurement data sheets, and overseeing field installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment required for facility operation. The role will also be responsible for automation-related project estimates, scope of works, procurement, factory acceptance testing, construction scheduling, inspecting installation, commissioning and startup duties. Other tasks may include supporting Automation Services, SCADA, IT, Commissioning, and Field Operations personnel, which may involve problem solving, technical support, troubleshooting, and modification and optimization of existing station/unit control systems and electrical/automation equipment. The role requires frequent short-term travel (1-3 days) with infrequent long-term travel (2-4 weeks with travel home on weekends provided).

Responsibilities

Review P&IDs, electrical one lines, conduit and cable schedules; create and review facility instrumentation technical specifications and procurement data sheets. Oversee field installation, testing, commissioning of equipment required for facility operation. Provide automation-related project estimates, scope of works, procurement, factory acceptance testing, and construction scheduling. Inspect installation, commissioning and startup activities; support Automation Services, SCADA, IT, Commissioning, and Field Operations as needed. Troubleshoot and optimize existing station/unit control systems and electrical/automation equipment. Travel as required (frequent short trips; occasional longer assignments).

Required Skills, Knowledge, And Experience

Technical knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, electrical power systems, control logic and schematics, conduit and cable sizing, and area classifications. Experience in panel design and layout, bill of materials, cause and effect tables, I/O schedules, wiring and P&ID schematics. 0-3 years of engineering experience in the above. Demonstrated ability to work with other functional groups on projects and initiatives. Capable of supporting distributed assets including personnel. Good verbal and written communication skills. Organization, prioritization, and time management skills. Able to travel up to 40% of the time. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, And Experience

Experience in PLC logic and programming with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley or Siemens. Experience in HMI configuration and programming with any of the following HMI software: Citect, Rockwell, or Wonderware. Technical knowledge of gas transmission equipment and facilities. Familiarity with NEC code requirements.

Required Education

Bachelor of Science in Control and Instrumentation Engineering Technology

Preferred Education

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or Computer Engineering
