Overview
Position: Anesthesia Technician at Grant Thornton (US)
Responsible for performing specialized patient care under the direction of the Director, Surgical Services. Responsible for cleaning and maintenance of all anesthesia equipment as well as ordering, stocking, distributing and maintaining inventory of anesthesia supplies.
Responsibilities
Assist anesthesiologists and/or nursing staff with direct patient care duties including assisting with patient transfers, preparation of patient equipment, intubations, regional anesthesia, and placement of invasive monitors.
Set up IV solutions, arterial lines and equipment for anesthesiologists’ use.
Order daily anesthesia supplies from storeroom and Pharmacy; order special equipment and replace when needed.
Report equipment malfunctions to the Operating Room; maintain service records and calibration/test results for OR/PACU equipment.
Check operational activity of battery-run equipment in anesthesia.
Conduct weekly inventory to maintain supplies at established levels and prepare orders for appropriate departments.
Participate in infection control by regularly cleaning anesthesia equipment and performing housekeeping duties to keep the anesthesia workroom neat and orderly.
Assist Secretary with clerical duties at the control desk where applicable.
Maintain Anesthesia and Operating Room Library and keep catalog files up to date.
Conduct routine checks of emergency and anesthesia carts; stock carts with required equipment and supplies; review inventory and note actions for Manager's follow-up.
Set up and calibrate invasive monitor transducers.
Hours and Schedule 40 hours per week, 6:30 am to 4:00 pm. Weekend rotation is call every 6th weekend, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Qualifications
Education : High School Graduate or equivalent. Some college or specialized secretarial or business courses preferred. CPR certification required.
Experience : 6 months to 1 year of Operating Room/Anesthesia Tech or EMT experience preferred. Understanding of sterile technique is essential. OR and PACU exposure is necessary.
Skills/Abilities : Good interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work with detailed, confidential material. Computer experience required. Must be a self-starter and able to function with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions
Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs, prolonged standing and walking, and frequent turning, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting. Exposure to infectious diseases and possible carcinogenic chemicals. Exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
Manual dexterity for procedures and computer use.
Auditory/visual demands to see reports and assist in procedures; ability to hear instructions from physicians and staff.
