Position Description

The University of South Carolina Sumter invites applicants for the position of Campus Dean. Reporting to the Chancellor for Palmetto College, the Campus Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for USC Sumter. The Campus Dean will lead the strategic, programmatic, financial, fundraising, and management operations that support the campus’ mission and vision. The Campus Dean is responsible for building effective relationships with area businesses and community organizations; assessing course offerings to ensure student needs are met; and closely monitoring enrollment and the campus’s financial health. The Campus Dean oversees planning, organizing, and directing community outreach and marketing to fulfill USC Sumter’s educational mission. Primary Responsibilities

Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and review of academic and administrative policies and procedures in all significant areas of operation (i.e., student, instructional, administrative, business, financial services, and auxiliary services). Administer all credit and noncredit programs. Serve as the principal administrator for all physical plant operations and maintenance assigned to USC Sumter. Lead and direct all campus outreach activities, including serving as the primary representative of the campus and the university in relations with local external agencies (e.g., advisory boards, alums, legislators, media, community leaders, business and professional organizations). Identify community programmatic needs, secure financial support, and maintain a base of public community support; serve as the primary advocate and spokesperson for the campus. Interpret and implement university policy at the local campus level; provide leadership in establishing campus objectives and goals; develop and manage all resources essential to the achievement of campus objectives and goals. Oversee the campus’s financial management; develop and implement capital expenditure programs; and create, manage, and review budgets. Serve on various departments, divisions, and university committees; represent the campus at appropriate university bodies, committees, councils, etc. Required Education and Experience

Earned doctorate from an accredited university. Minimum of three years of experience at the Department or Division Head level or above. Experience and achievements commensurate with tenure at the rank of Professor. A substantial record of scholarship within the academic discipline/education field. Progressive leadership and administrative experience at an institution of higher learning. A strong demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence within a university. Demonstrated leadership within an interdisciplinary campus that emphasizes collaboration among colleges and campuses, evidence of growing student enrollment and successful enrollment management, and evidence of sound financial management. Substantially skilled fiscal and fundraising expertise to help increase the endowment for supporting programs, scholarships, students, and distinguished chairs. Experience with national accreditation agencies/bodies. Experience with developing, coordinating, and delivering distance education programs. Evidence of being a successful leader and of having significant creative accomplishments. Preferred Qualifications
