Overview Under the general supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist, this role delivers accurate radiation treatments to patients. The technician works closely with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists and other health professionals to provide photon, electron, stereotactic and radiosurgery treatments to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric oncology patients.
Key Responsibilities
50% – Delivering radiation therapy treatments
20% – Simulation and treatment planning
10% – Quality assurance of equipment and procedures
10% – Patient care and monitoring
5% – Education and training of team members
5% – Documentation and record keeping
Minimum Qualifications
Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) or equivalent
State of California Certificate in Therapeutic Radiology
ARRT‑RT certification (Certificate 4R) or equivalent
Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent CPR qualification, renewed biannually
Completed radiation therapy school and graduate from an accredited program
Proficiency with linear accelerators and CT‑simulator equipment
Continuing education to maintain credentials
Knowledge of current radiation therapy practices
Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
Ability to prioritize work and respond to machine breakdowns or high‑volume situations
Demonstrated commitment to patient‑centered care and continuous quality improvement
Ability to comply with safety and regulatory requirements in a highly regulated environment
Preferred Qualifications
Prior staff experience in a high‑volume academic or clinical setting
Experience with Elekta and Accuray linear accelerators and associated software (XVI, Mosaiq)
Knowledge of external beam radiation therapy procedures and quality assurance protocols
Adaptability to evolving technology and high‑acuity clinical practice
Employment Information
Salary: $69.11 – $89.43 per hour (Hourly)
Grade: 187 – Full‑time Staff Career
Location: Cancer Center (HSP093), UC Davis
Shift: Variable; 100% on‑site
