RS&H is seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to join our Environmental Stewardship and Resilience (ESR) market segment. In this role you will lead environmental compliance activities, direct junior staff, and help engineering project managers and professionals identify and resolve environmental compliance challenges related to large building, infrastructure, and ongoing client operations. You will provide environmental stewardship, sustainability, and resilience planning, permitting, and consulting services to aviation, transportation, DoD, municipal, and private clients nationwide.
Responsibilities
Lead project teams to provide timely, high‑quality environmental permitting and compliance deliverables.
Manage projects to ensure efficient task performance and on‑time delivery.
Provide technical leadership on complex regulatory issues.
Ensure all work products meet quality standards and client expectations.
Develop strategic approaches for identifying target clients and winning projects.
Build and maintain long‑term business partnerships in key industry sectors.
Maintain relationships with regulatory personnel.
Collaborate with client and project managers to fully serve client needs.
Develop junior staff in regulatory knowledge, analytical techniques, client communication, business development, and leadership skills.
Contribute to corporate direction and strategy through effective communication and feedback with regional and senior management.
Requirements
Minimum 10 years of applicable environmental consulting experience with public and private clients.
5–10 years of experience leading project teams and growing talent.
Demonstrated ability to perform multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule expectations.
Expertise in Clean Water Act permitting (Sections 401, 402, 404, etc.), NPDES, storm‑water permitting, SWPPP/SWMP, SPCC, storage‑tank programs, and RCRA hazardous waste regulations and reporting.
Ability to provide multimedia environmental support for compliance with applicable regulations, permits, and plans.
Experience preparing plans, permit applications, and reports for hazardous waste, air quality, storm water, NPDES, and wastewater programs.
Strong understanding of complex environmental challenges, regulatory strategies, and emerging contaminant investigation.
Experience with NEPA, endangered species, public water system, and wastewater treatment planning is a plus.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience preparing regulatory documents and negotiating terms to meet federal and state environmental laws.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, environmental engineering, or related field.
Professional certifications (C.E.P., PE‑Civil/Environmental, Professional Geologist, etc.) preferred.
Self‑starter capable of collaborating with diverse, non‑environmental teams and responding swiftly to client needs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient with MS Office and ESRI ArcGIS software.
Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with emerging contaminant investigation and complex regulatory challenges.
Professional certifications or state board registrations such as C.E.P., ENV SP, C.E., PE‑Civil/Environmental, or Professional Geologist.
