Description The City of Overland Park has a full‑time Supervisor, Visitor Services and Events position available in the Parks and Recreation Department. The Visitor Services & Events Supervisor will serve within the management team at the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead. This position will supervise events and manage front‑of‑house operations for the Farmstead, including guest services, ticketing, memberships, rentals, and birthday parties.
Responsibilities
Supervise farmstead entrance operations, including guest services, ticketing, memberships, and front‑of‑house operations.
Recruit, hire, train, and retain part‑time and full‑time employees in visitor services and event operations.
Coordinate with farmstead personnel to plan, promote, and administer city‑sponsored farmstead special events.
Collaborate with Friends of the Farmstead and the Arts and Recreation Foundation of Overland Park (ARFOP) for sponsorship, fundraising, and member programs.
Represent the City at FOF fundraising committee meetings and events.
Work with the ARFOP and City of Overland Park Communications teams to develop and coordinate marketing plans for events and activities at the farmstead.
Manage public‑facing content, including writing and updating event information on the City’s website.
Assist Friends of the Farmstead by creating and maintaining budgets, identifying, writing, and submitting grant proposals, and preparing annual reports.
Coordinate group reservations for birthday parties, corporate gatherings, and school trips.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintain availability during regular business hours or shifts to support staff, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Demonstrate punctuality, meet attendance standards, comply with work‑time schedules, and observe scheduled breaks.
Requirements Education & Special Licenses/Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Parks and Recreation, Public Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
Experience Three years’ experience in event management, parks and recreation, or related fields.
Skills
Supervisory experience preferred.
Analytical, detail‑oriented, and basic math skills.
Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
Excellent oral and written communication, listening skills, and ability to give presentations to adults and children.
Ability to design brochures, signs, and other promotional materials.
Effective public‑relations skills, interpersonal ability with teachers and community organizations.
Mechanical aptitude, tact, and diplomacy.
Proficiency with Windows‑based PC software: desktop publishing, presentation, spreadsheets, and word‑processing.
Mental Requirements
Meet deadlines, train and guide others, follow oral and written instructions, work independently, manage multiple projects in a hectic environment.
Creative design and communication skills, good memory, ability to learn new materials and systems, prioritize work.
Physical Requirements Able to work in extreme environmental conditions.
