Description Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental compliance professionals at Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a member of the Environmental team, you will support environmental programs aimed at ensuring compliance with air quality regulations and standards across the Americas while also enabling AWS's growth around the world.
As an Air Compliance Regional Environmental Engineer (REE), your primary focus will be serving as the air quality compliance subject matter expert (SME) across the Americas region. You will provide programmatic oversight and ensure alignment of compliance practices across all AWS data centers. Your role involves providing technical expertise on local, state, federal air regulations, establishing standardized audit protocols, developing emissions testing programs, and creating strategies for continuous improvement in air quality management. You will also support REEs across the region to resolve complex air compliance challenges and drive environmental performance, as well as standardize incident response and reporting protocols related to air quality events.
Key Job Responsibilities
Lead air quality compliance programs focused on Tier 4 diesel generator operations across multiple data center locations in North and South America
Manage and oversee compliance with federal, state, and local air quality regulations related to emergency backup power systems
Ensure compliance with EPA regulations including 40 CFR 60 Subpart IIII (Standards of Performance for Stationary Compression Ignition Internal Combustion Engines)
Develop and implement air quality monitoring programs and compliance tracking systems for Tier 4 diesel generators
Coordinate with environmental consultants and testing firms to complete required emissions testing and verify compliance
Provide technical guidance on air quality compliance requirements
Conduct periodic compliance audits of diesel generator operations and oversee corrective actions
Support emergency response planning related to air quality incidents
Collaborate with the air permitting team and REEs to ensure operational compliance with existing permit conditions
Stay current with evolving air quality regulations and industry best practices for diesel generator management
Develop and deliver air quality compliance training for relevant staff
Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for air quality compliance

Basic Qualifications
Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent
5+ years of experience in air quality compliance, specifically with stationary diesel generators
Strong knowledge of EPA and state regulations governing diesel generator emissions
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of critical data center equipment
Experience in project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations, with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure
Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains
Knowledge of emerging clean energy technologies and regulations
Proficiency with environmental management software systems

Base pay ranges from $98,700 per year in our lowest geographic market to $210,800 per year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on geographic location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
