Abbott is committed to transforming the treatment landscape for patients with structural heart disease through its robust array of therapies such as Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Interventions (TMTI), Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), and solutions for stroke risk reduction and congenital heart disease and surgical heart valves. This division has been a key revenue driver in the EMEA region, with its continuous double‑digit growth since 2017. The Structural Heart division not only includes cutting‑edge technologies but also maintains focus on traditional areas like mitral valve repair and congenital heart disease. This diverse approach ensures continued attention to profitability and market share, reinforcing Abbott’s role as a leader in cardiovascular solutions.

This General Manager position is responsible for leading the organization’s strategic direction and financial performance in Italy for the Structural Heart Division across all its franchises (Mitraclip, Triclip, TAVR, Tendyne, Structural Intervention, Cardiac Surgery). It oversees sales operations and marketing execution to drive growth and market success. Ensures business activities align with corporate policies while adhering to local legal, regulatory, and cultural standards. Collaborates closely with finance, regulatory/quality, clinical, HR, communications, legal, and IT teams to support seamless operations and strategic objectives.

Main Responsibilities

Deliver Business Results – Set and meet aggressive revenue targets, establish and maintain strong financial and sales performance, manage and drive results across the portfolio.

Market Focus – Proactively engage and expand market presence through interaction with key stakeholders such as payers, providers, clinicians, patients, and advocates in Italy markets.

Financial Management – Drive targeted forecast, analyze and manage key financial drivers (margin, profit, operating costs) in alignment with short- and long-term objectives.

Strategic Execution – Define and implement business strategy, translate short-term execution plans into long‑term map between operational program, investments and milestones.

Leadership – Build and develop a high-performing, cross‑functional team, inspire through vision, coaching, and performance management.

Cross‑functional Collaboration – Align strategy with finance, quality, regulatory, clinical, and other functional partners within the global organization.

Stakeholder Engagement – Maintain direct relationships with key stakeholders (payers, clinicians, patients, advocacy groups) to shape program strategy and solutions.

Corporate Objectives – Translate Abbott Corporate strategic objectives into clearly defined, actionable plans for the Structural Heart portfolio and market in Italy.

Organizational Development – Build performance of employees, implement development plans, and create pipeline.

Business Planning – Participate in the annual planning cycle, ensuring market updates, segmentation strategy, pipeline and recommendation updates.

Align with Local and Global United Design Teams – Work closely with Design (Lean, Value Engineering) to improve process and system 6‑sigma work.

Apply General Management Expertise – Lead, sponsor, evaluate and select new technology and capital investment initiatives that drive financial value for Abbott.

Optimise Business Operating Models – Assist teams to identify process improvements, rapid application, implementation to scale effort.

Education & Knowledge

MBA in Business or Science or equivalent

15 years + experience in commercial leadership role

Familiar with medical device field, and Italy market landscape

Proven experience in business growth acceleration and turnaround

Excellent people development abilities
