Northrop Grumman is looking for a Sr. Staff Engineer Systems to join our Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems team in Huntsville, AL. The role supports the Systems Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) program, providing technical leadership on the Integrated Discrimination Team (IDT) portfolio. Position Overview
The selected candidate will serve as the SE&I Deputy Chief Engineer specializing in Countermeasure Mitigation and Discrimination (CM&D), overseeing the integration of electromagnetic warfare (EW) and discrimination products and ensuring alignment with system-level discrimination goals. Essential Functions
Participate in MDA design reviews, test reviews, and technical interchange meetings to maintain agency-wide understanding of CM&D concepts. Engage with SE&I Team industry partners to align MDA capability pipeline development with technological advances. Plan and execute CM&D-related SE&I Team tasks, including project sprints, stand‑ups, and retrospectives. Ensure system design products are compatible with future CM&D concepts and contribute to the MDA Capability Gap Tracker. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 14 years of related experience, or a Master’s Degree and 12 years, or 10 years of experience with a PhD. Technical background in missile defense radar design, operations, and signal processing with a focus on target discrimination. Comprehensive knowledge of missile defense system sensors, command and control, effector systems, and adversary countermeasures. Proficiency in modeling and simulation for discrimination phenomenology, including MATLAB, Python, Java, or C/C++. Experience conducting system concept trade studies, requirements and feasibility analysis, performance measurement, and timing analysis. Excellent communication skills and leadership ability to guide a team of engineers. Willingness to work on a customer site and travel up to 10% of the time. Active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance is required at the time of application. Preferred Qualifications
Electro‑optical/infrared (EO/IR) discrimination experience. Experience with analysis, assessment, verification, and familiarity with MDS performance metrics. Systems engineering experience with large complex systems and modeling of exo‑atmospheric and endo‑atmospheric target phenomenology. Discrimination analysis and fusion experience, e.g., Project Hercules or national laboratory activities. Salary and Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $179,600.00 – $269,400.00. The range represents a general guideline; actual offers may vary based on qualifications, experience, and market conditions. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, paid holidays, PTO, and potential bonuses.
