Sr. Manager - Technical Accounting & Tax
Role will report directly into the Chief Accounting Officer and be responsible for owning all technical accounting and accounting policy matters for the Company, including debt modifications/refinancings, goodwill impairment analyses, and revenue recognition. The role will also oversee the Company’s global tax compliance, annual tax provision, and other controllership activities as required. In addition to reporting to the CAO, the role will have direct interactions with the global CFO, segment CFOs, and business unit finance directors. Chicago, IL Responsibilities
Technical Accounting: Perform technical accounting research and analysis related to complex transactions and other arrangements. Such transactions may include: Debt modifications/refinancings Segment and reporting unit analyses Annual goodwill impairment testing Long-lived asset impairments Business combinations Lease accounting Technical conclusions Accounting processes Revenue recognition Fixed asset accounting Inventory accounting Lead the Company’s adoption of new accounting standards, as necessary Accounting Policies And Controls: Lead project to update the Company’s accounting policies and procedures, including education/training related to changes in policy Owner and reviewer of quarterly certification questionnaires Tax: Oversee the Company’s annual tax provision process Own relationship with 3rd party tax provision provider Manage PBC process to ensure timely completion of annual tax provision Review output from 3rd party provider to ensure accuracy Serve as liaison between 3rd party tax provision provider and external auditors/tax compliance providers Oversee the Company’s overall global tax compliance Own relationship with 3rd party tax compliance providers (both domestic and international) Manage PBC process with 3rd party provider(s) Review output from 3rd party providers to ensure accurate filings Follow-up with relevant taxing authorities (federal, state, etc.) and ensure timely resolution of tax notices/issues Oversee/manage the completion of annual transfer pricing studies with 3rd party provider Ensure timely and accurate quarterly tax payments Oversee the quarterly cash tax forecast with 3rd party provider Assist in providing guidance on tax implications of proposed business transactions Accounting Policies And Controls: Lead project to update the Company’s accounting policies and procedures, including education/training related to changes in policy Owner and reviewer of quarterly certification questionnaires Other: Ad hoc involvement in sale process and/or mergers and acquisitions, including: Due diligence Accounting integration Purchase accounting Support various aspects of the year-end audit, including but not limited to: Coordination of annual physical inventory counts with external auditors Align with external auditors on accounting treatment for unusual transactions Assist in month-end close activities as required (review account reconciliations, review journal entries, etc.) Other special projects as required Experience
5 – 7 years of public accounting or commensurate industry experience CPA a must Skills And Abilities
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP technical accounting matters and ability to perform technical accounting research in areas such as goodwill, leases, revenue recognition, and business combinations High-level understanding of U.S. tax compliance requirements and ASC 740 tax accounting Exposure to PCAOB audit requirements a plus Excellent written and verbal communications skills Strong analytical and organizational skills Deadline driven with keen attention to details Ability to work independently to solve problems Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis’s total compensation package. Compensation also includes a competitive benefits package and may also include bonuses, and other on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is estimated to be $120,000 to $140,000.
