A global publicly traded company headquartered in downtown Chicago is seeking a Senior Manager, Technical & Transaction Accounting to join its corporate finance organization. About the Role:
Reporting to the Director of Technical Accounting, the Senior Manager will serve as a key resource for complex transaction analysis, technical research, and financial reporting. You’ll partner closely with the corporate development, FP&A, and financial reporting teams to evaluate, document, and execute accounting treatment for strategic initiatives.
This position is perfect for someone who enjoys diving into technical GAAP topics, leading cross‑functional projects, and influencing decision‑making at the enterprise level.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead accounting analysis for complex transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and structured arrangements.
Partner with finance and business leaders to ensure new and evolving transactions are accounted for accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
Perform technical accounting research and draft position papers to document conclusions.
Oversee purchase price allocations, goodwill and intangible asset valuations, and related impairment testing.
Review new or amended contracts to assess accounting implications and communicate findings to stakeholders.
Collaborate with financial reporting to prepare required disclosures for quarterly and annual filings.
Manage relationships with external auditors, providing clear documentation and support for key accounting judgments.
Supervise and develop a team of accountants, fostering growth and technical expertise.
Participate in ongoing process improvement and system enhancement initiatives within corporate accounting.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Active CPA license required.
8+ years of relevant experience, including a mix of public accounting (Big 4 or large regional firm) and/or corporate accounting.
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, including consolidation, business combinations, and fair‑value concepts.
Experience with SEC reporting and technical accounting preferred.
Excellent project management, communication, and analytical skills.
Experience with large ERP or financial reporting systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Hyperion, OneStream) preferred.
Proven ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with senior executives.
