Web Developer (Front-End)

Longwell Partners, Washington, District of Columbia, us, 20022

Save Job

Longwell Partners is a full-service, pro-democracy communications firm based in Washington, DC. We specialize in high-profile political projects—including The Bulwark, Home of the Brave, and Republican Voters Against Trump—and we’re looking for a Web Developer to build high-impact advocacy and public-education websites that help shape national conversations.

If you’re a creative, detail-oriented developer who enjoys turning design and strategy into clean, effective, user-friendly websites, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role You’ll own the full build process – from interpreting a creative brief to taking a site live. Most projects start from scratch and move quickly, so you’ll combine technical skill with good judgment and self-sufficiency. You will collaborate closely with our in-house graphic designer and communications strategists, contribute ideas, and turn concepts into polished, reliable sites that perform well and look great.

You should be comfortable owning the full life cycle of a site — translating designs into clean, responsive code, managing hosting and deployments, and ensuring the finished product performs reliably across devices. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Next.js, or curiosity to learn them, is a plus.

Responsibilities

Build and launch project websites and microsites from scratch

Translate designs and briefs into site architecture, timelines, and clear deliverables

Implement responsive, accessible interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Maintain and extend existing sites

Configure hosting, DNS, and SSL; deploy updates and troubleshoot issues

Collaborate with designers and strategists to develop interactive and creative elements

Test thoroughly, monitor performance, and iterate based on results

Contribute ideas for improving workflow efficiency and site performance

What We’re Looking For

2+ years of professional experience in web development in an agency, campaign, freelance, or similar setting

Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Experience building and maintaining websites using a CMS or comparable content framework

Comfort with Git and modern development workflows, including deploying updates to staging and production

Basic hosting and deployment skills (e.g., WP Engine, Netlify, or similar)

Clear communicator who collaborates well with designers and non-technical teammates

Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment

Ability to work on-site in downtown DC five days a week (this is not a remote opportunity)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with PHP or modern front-end frameworks such as React or Next.js

Ability to build simple app-like features and integrate third‑party APIs or forms

Familiarity with analytics and tag management tools (G4A, Meta, or Google Ads pixels)

Curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI‑powered features or automation

Why Join Us

Competitive salary and 100% covered medical insurance

401(k) matching program

Metro‑accessible, downtown DC location

A collaborative, mission‑driven culture that values hard work, initiative, and shared success

The chance to build digital products that reach large audiences and support pro‑democracy advocacy

Room to grow: Learn new technologies, expand your skill set, and contribute to a high‑performing team

What Success Looks Like In your first year, you will:

Launch 8–12 project websites that meet our quality and performance standards

Develop reusable templates and workflows that accelerate future projects

Help the communications team test ideas quickly and efficiently

Strengthen our in-house digital capacity ahead of the 2026 election cycle
