Clinical Nurse Specialist (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Maine Medical Center (MMC) is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) within the MaineHealth network. This is a bargaining‑unit, full‑time day position.
Eligible candidates are hired for a full or part‑time RN position. The bonus is prorated for part‑time hires; per diem hires are ineligible.
Current MaineHealth employees and former employees within six months of separation are ineligible.
Job Summary
The selected nurse will bring advanced practice nursing expertise, clinical leadership, and patient‑centered education to support the NICU team, patients, and families at MMC. The ideal candidate holds an advanced nursing degree (MSN or Doctorate), a valid RN license, and at least two years of clinical nursing experience, including a leadership role.
Responsibilities
Provide expert clinical nursing care and education to the NICU team and patients.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (surgical, cardiac, genetics, etc.) to deliver evidence‑based care.
Develop and coordinate complex care plans.
Lead professional development and quality‑improvement initiatives.
Contribute to the growth and effectiveness of the NICU environment.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in advanced practice clinical nursing (MSN or Doctorate).
Current valid RN license in Maine.
Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a NICU setting.
Leadership experience and clinical specialty certification at the advanced practice level required.
Strong critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Education & Licensure
Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and education sufficient for patient assessment and care planning.
Certification in clinical specialty at an advanced practice level (if applicable).
License to practice as an RN in Maine; advanced practice license, if applicable.
Work Setting
NICU and Continuing Care Nursery at MMC: a 51‑bed level III unit and 20‑bed nursery with state‑of‑the‑art equipment. The unit is supported by neonatologists, APPs, a 150‑person nursing staff, a critical‑care transport team, and the nurse‑driven PICC team.
