Specimen Processing - Pre-Analytical Assistant

Basic Purpose: Pre-Analytical Assistant I is responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department.
Position Requirements:
Minimal data entry skills
Good organizational skills
Understanding of specimen types related to test(s) ordered
Knowledge of clinical department requirements regarding specimen types, quantity, handling, and delivery
Understanding of compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change and pursue continuous improvement
Commitment to fulfilling internal and external customer requirements in routine responsibilities
Active contribution to a team-based environment
Support for staffing needs on weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime
Tasks performed with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness
Performance tasks include but are not limited to:
Sorting
Racking
Pickup and delivery of specimens
Specimen storage
Potentially operating sorters in archive mode
Centrifugation
Aliquoting
Job Accountabilities:
Learn assigned duties and understand how Tech Ops and Specimen Processing functions interconnect and impact quality
Identify and resolve issues with specimens or information, or escalate as needed
Understand compliance policies and research test order information as needed
Meet quality and production standards within 6 months of training
Complete documentation accurately and timely
Maintain punctuality and support department in coworker absences
Learn additional functions for career progression
Perform other duties as assigned
Environment and Skills:
Handle multiple tasks in a production setting

Work in a biohazard environment safely
Keep work area organized and clean according to standards
Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs., and maneuver large carts/racks

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Medical background preferred, including medical terminology
Previous production environment experience preferred
Familiarity with mainframe computers preferred
