Purpose Of Albuquerque Costumer Role The Albuquerque Costumer is responsible for overseeing Albuquerque’s costume department and the costuming needs for performances presented by the Albuquerque Outreach, Hiland After-School, and Statewide Residency programs. The Costumer reports to the Hiland Program Artistic Director and carries out the mission and policies of NDI New Mexico with excellence. The Costumer delegates duties and provides secondary oversight of the Albuquerque Costume Assistant. The Costume Director is a member of the organization’s Artistic Staff.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for costuming and shoes, including creation, rental, fitting, laundry, storage
Prepares backstage areas for performances and is present backstage to address costume needs during performances (Hiland Moving Stories, Hiland Showcases, Albuquerque Outreach and Residency Events, and special events as needed)
Directs costuming for residencies, traveling to 4-7 Residency shows, and manages support staff for other residencies; coordinates transportation of costumes with Program Director and Technical Director
Manages costume volunteers and assistants
Prepares and launders t-shirts for Albuquerque Outreach assemblies, In-School Events, small residencies and related programs
Orders, maintains, and organizes shoe supply for Albuquerque Advanced Training Teams and oversees distribution and fitting at program start-up and during the school year and related summer programs
Orders and organizes merchandise t-shirts for the organization in coordination with Program Directors, Santa Fe Costumer, and Marketing Dept.
General Duties
Schedules regular office hours at The Hiland, at least 20 hours per week; works off-site hours as needed with supervisor permission
Attends staff meetings as needed
Maintains regular communication with Program Artistic Directors and Santa Fe Costumer to assist with Santa Fe, North and Dance Barns After-School programs’ needs, sharing resources and addressing inventory changes
Inputs and maintains information into a costume inventory (when implemented)
Upholds all Management and HR policies and procedures
Other duties as needed
Working Conditions, Environment And Physical Requirements
Functions performed in a variety of environments including NDI New Mexico offices, schools, residency sites, and other locations
Requires reliable transportation and reimbursable in-state travel to NDI New Mexico locations, participating schools, residency sites, and community events
Requires weekend and evening hours
May be required to lift up to 25 lbs
May be required to navigate stairs
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required Job Specific Requirements
Sewing skills; creation of new costumes, and maintenance and tailoring of stock
Creative vision for aesthetic presentation of costumes in dance performances
Strong organizational skills for managing multiple event timelines and large-scale performances
