Position Summary The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for developing and executing effective outreach strategies in underserved communities, expanding the reach of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls in an assigned target area. The specialist increases participation and accessibility of Girl Scouts by recruiting and forming volunteer‑led troops and supporting community‑based partnership programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Outreach
Achieve girl and adult membership goals by implementing membership strategies in assigned market areas.
Design and implement a comprehensive plan for girl and adult membership growth in targeted areas using market data and trends.
Implement marketing strategies for membership recruitment outlined in the council’s strategic plan; cultivate and organize communities that result in increased girl and volunteer leads.
Attend community events and prepare presentations to increase visibility.
Follow up on new leads and referrals resulting from field activity in a timely manner.
Track outreach efforts and communication in CRM (Salesforce).
Building Community Partnerships
Establish relationships with area organizations, coalitions, schools, and school districts.
Develop and cultivate partnerships with community youth‑serving organizations, agencies, educators, faith‑based institutions to increase awareness and participation in the Girl Scout program.
Responsible for the annual retention of participating community partners.
Provide on‑site training and continuous support to Girl Scout program facilitators at regional sites.
Design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate program activities, curriculum, events, and camps to meet the needs of girls ages 5‑18 from diverse communities.
Set specific outreach targets and develop action plans to project necessary contacts for membership goal attainment. Prepare status reports on activity, follow‑up, and adherence to goals.
Recruitment & Troop Formation
Plan and implement recruitment activities/events.
Form new volunteer‑led Girl Scout troops in assigned target area and work with new troops to recruit members to ensure minimum girl capacity is met.
Track and follow up on potential leaders through onboarding completion.
Support Service Unit of volunteers by attending Service Unit leader and team meetings.
Recruit Service Unit Recruiters and School Organizers to maximize recruitment efforts in the target area.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills: express ideas clearly, listen, and prepare organized presentations; handle sensitive and confidential issues effectively with diverse groups.
Customer responsiveness: provide superior service, prioritize and balance issues, and follow through in a timely manner.
Project management: coordinate multiple projects, manage conflicting priorities, set goals, anticipate issues, and establish courses of action.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Excellent independent decision‑making skills, resourcefulness, and a proven record of working autonomously with minimal oversight.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Experience in project management.
Flexible schedule: willing to work evenings and weekends.
Volunteer experience preferred.
Ability to adapt to changing situations and to learn new technology applications.
Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Must commute an average of 400‑600 miles a month.
Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
