Position Summary The Universal Banker Trainee - Bilingual provides exceptional customer service to a diverse clientele. Employees will demonstrate effective communication, product knowledge, and a strong understanding of bank services. Proficiency in English and Spanish is required to assist multilingual customers. Trainees remain in the program until they can accurately match customers with appropriate products through needs‑based questioning and consistently meet or exceed performance goals.
Primary Accountabilities
Institutional knowledge of banking.
Receive cash and checks for deposit, verify amounts, review endorsements, and identify potential fraud, including holds.
Examine cash to prevent counterfeit bills.
Cash checks per bank policy, enter transactions into computer system, and issue receipts.
Provide accurate customer service, maintain balanced cash drawer, and minimize teller differences.
Understand basic deposit and lending products & services.
Use needs‑based questioning to recommend correct product types and deepen customer relationships.
Assist with basic deposit account openings and maintenance under senior supervision.
Develop sales and product knowledge, track and monitor goals, and use customer information software.
Participate in onsite visits to promote Employee Perks at Work Program & Merchant Services.
Engage in outbound teleconsulting to expand client relationships.
Attend weekly huddles and one‑on‑one coaching sessions.
Serve as relief or backup teller at other Midland States Bank locations.
Complete all assigned learning activities in a timely manner.
Model Midland States Bank core values and support bank culture.
Participate in community activities and initiatives sponsored by the bank.
Communicate with customers in both English and Spanish, ensuring clear and accurate responses.
Translate and interpret documents and messages as needed.
Travel occasionally for training and team meetings; travel to market locations may be required.
Provide support from a Midland office as needed.
Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications Education/Experience
Sales and customer service background.
Proficiency in both English and Spanish is required.
Ability to
Stand for extended periods.
Lift and transport coin and currency bags (25–50 lbs).
