Engineer I – Wastewater and Stormwater State of Delaware – Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC)

Sign-On Bonus The DNREC offers monetary recruitment incentives to new Engineers.

$4,000 for Engineer I

$5,000 for Engineer II

$6,000 for Engineer III

$7,000 for Engineer IV

Incentives are paid in two installments: one after three months of employment and the second after eighteen months. New employees must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DNREC.

Summary Statement The employee will issue permits for the construction and operation of wastewater treatment and disposal systems and stormwater infrastructure, and provide technical support for compliance and enforcement.

Career Ladder Upon satisfactory completion of department promotional standards, employees may be promoted to the next level.

Essential Functions

Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.

Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.

Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.

Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.

Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.

Plans and coordinates engineering projects.

Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.

Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.

Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Job Requirements

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree (or expected graduation date within 9 months) in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering administered by the NCEES.
