Nature of Work

This position works under the direction of the Warehouse Operations Specialist and is responsible for selecting, disbursing, receiving, storing, and securing materials and supplies required for the continued operation of the utility.

2025 wage range is $30.95 to $36.41 per hour.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment or location.

*Receive daily workload from Warehouse Operations Specialist and carry these assignments through to completion.

*Disburse materials/supplies from Stores.

Receive properly executed issue form(s) from requesting party indicating items needed.

Record items with quantities issued out of stores, sign name and make entries in the computer.

Receive work orders and may lay out materials for crews in staging area.

Occasionally may make field deliveries to line crews and/or other operating personnel.

Assist with cycle-counting of inventory items.

*Receive materials/supplies.

Confirm incoming materials/supplies are for Rochester Public Utilities.

Verify shipping packing slip and/or invoice with purchase order and inspect shipment(s) received for damage, etc.

Complete required receiving forms and enter into the computer.

Notify requesting party of materials/supplies received.

Disburse to proper storage location(s) and perform inventory counts upon storing or deliver to requesting party.

Determine disposition of unused materials/supplies returned to Stores. This also includes materials being retired from utility systems.

*Assist with the ordering of materials/supplies to ensure maintaining adequate level(s) of stock to meet anticipated utility needs.

Daily review of all materials/supplies transactions into and out of inventory to determine inventory level(s) and needs.

Review all work order projects scheduled for completion.

Daily inventory check to identify materials/supplies not accounted for and notify Warehouse Operations Specialist.

Assist the Warehouse Operations Specialist in the proper storing and securing of materials/ supplies.

Continually assess and recommend cost efficient storage systems.

Recommend security systems for improved control and accountability of materials/supplies as deemed necessary.

Perform miscellaneous other duties as required.

Maintain tool room and associated record keeping system.

Perform repair work on returned materials and/or recommend material to be disposed of.

Assist in processing and maintaining all Stores related record keeping systems.

May be required to perform all duties of Warehouse Operations Specialist in that position's absence.

Must be available for overtime as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent general education degree (GED); and at least 1 year of experience in an industrial warehousing operation.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Valid driver's license

Desirable Qualifications

Valid Minnesota Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Similar warehousing experience at an electrical utility, water utility or power generation operation preferred.

The drug and alcohol testing policies and procedures of the City of Rochester will conform to the requirements of state law as set forth in the Minnesota Statutes Sections 181.950 through 181.957, as well as the requirements of federal law as set forth in the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of: Personal computers and software packages, including specific knowledge of MS Word, Excel and computerized inventory control systems; Electric and Water parts and supplies; Standard store keeping and inventory control methods, practices and procedures; OSHA regulations that pertain to Right-to-Know and the proper storage and handling of hazardous materials/supplies.

Skill in: Computer, data entry and keyboard usage; Performing basic math calculations; Performing stockroom and inventory procedures, including order picking; Operating a forklift or other power driven equipment to move or lift supplies and equipment; and Recognizing basic mechanical parts.

Ability to: Multitask while using good judgment; Organize and analyze data; Plan and organize work; Meet schedules and time lines; Maintain records; Perform related clerical duties with speed and accuracy; Learn sources of supply and basic purchasing techniques; Read parts catalogs; Order parts needed from outlined specifications; Maintain, audit, analyze and reconcile a variety of reports; Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, customers, and the general public as necessitated by work; Read, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; Safely lift or move 50 pounds and unload deliveries of heavy items with or without assistance; Apply appropriate safety practices.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA

In consideration of the overall amount of physical effort required to perform this position, the work is best described as Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work is performed in a warehouse setting with typical exposure to noise, fumes, odors and hazards.

A majority of the time is spent standing, walking and lifting, with little time spent sitting.

Audio, visual and verbal functions are vital aspects to performing this position, as well as the ability to operate motorized machines and equipment.
