Commercial Energy Advisor

Limited Term, anticipated through 2026, contingent upon funding and performance.

Role Overview The Commercial Energy Advisor manages energy service needs for over 5,000 key and commercial account customers, partnering with the commercial team to provide energy consulting, innovative strategies, and technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as single point of contact for industrial and commercial accounts, advocating for customer needs and coordinating with regulatory agencies.
Develop and manage account relationships, maximizing efficiency, growth, and trade relations with RPU.
Lead community and economic development initiatives to promote energy conservation.
Support public events and customer engagements.
Assist customers and vendors with interconnection processes, including permitting, inspections, and contract execution.
Coordinate interconnection and software platforms for distributed energy resources (DERs) including renewables, EVs, battery storage.
Implement and communicate new technologies, renewables, and demand‑side management programs.
Provide energy management advice, data analysis, and program design.
Maintain up‑to‑date customer profiles and energy data.
Support RPU leadership in meeting regulated mandates such as the statewide Eco Act Program.
Represent RPU on emerging technology and program developments.
Collaborate with industry groups such as ASHRAE and CERTs.
Perform safety and operational standards as applicable.
Qualifications
Three years of progressively responsible experience in application engineering, energy marketing, energy engineering, energy management, energy auditing, or account management for industrial/commercial customers.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, economics, electrical/mechanical engineering, or a closely related field.
Valid Minnesota driver’s license.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification, or ability to obtain within agreed timeline.
Desirable: Business Energy Professional (BEP) certification; experience with electric, water, gas, or communications utilities.
Compensation Starting salary: $103,003–$121,180 per year (2025), with potential advancement to $151,474.
