The Interventional Radiology Technologist (EP Lab Tech II) performs radiographic and related procedures involving ionizing radiation for patients of all ages (newborn to geriatric). The technologist administers procedures in diagnostic, therapeutic, or research contexts and works under a licensed independent practitioner (LIP). The role integrates scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction, and compassionate care to support diagnostic information and/or therapeutic outcomes. Responsibilities

Determine radiographic exposure factors. Assist the LIP with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiographic procedures; perform non-interpretive fluoroscopy as prescribed by a LIP. Start and maintain intra-arterial access as prescribed by a LIP; participate in physiologic monitoring of patients. Perform manual and mechanical hemostasis, including use of closure devices, while assisting the LIP. Apply patient safety principles during all radiographic procedures; assist and transport patients as needed. Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic imaging orders in the patient’s medical record; corroborate clinical history with the ordered procedure for use by a LIP. Verify informed consent and assume responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures. Prepare patients for procedures and apply ALARA principles to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others. Perform venipuncture and establish intravenous access per procedural protocol based on imaging orders from a LIP. Identify, prepare, and/or administer medications commonly associated with diagnostic imaging procedures as prescribed by a LIP. Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded. Identify and escalate emergency situations and manage until the appropriate LIP, EMS, MERT, RRT, or Code Team assumes control. Provide patient education related to imaging procedures. Educate, mentor, and oversee students and other learners in the Radiology environment. Participate in and/or perform ongoing quality assurance activities. Licensure, Certification, and Registration (Hire)

ARRT Registration: ARRT-Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R); ARRT – VI or ARRT CI as applicable. Current Certification by ARRT; ARRT – VI or ARRT CI. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. Experience

Required: One (1) year of previous IR Technologist work experience. Preferred: One to three years of IR Technologist work experience; prior work in an academic medical center environment. Education/Training

Required: Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology recognized by the ARRT. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology or a closely related field from an accredited program. Independent Action

Interventional Technologists independently perform and/or assist the LIP in completing radiologic imaging exams, adhering to physician orders, department protocols, and safety standards. Represent the goals, values, and vision of the health system and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and department policies. Lead technologists may coordinate work assignments, workflow, staffing, and provide training as a resource. Additional Position Requirements

Individual shift rotations and schedules are established with the supervisor; shifts may be adjusted to meet staffing needs. On-call, weekend, and after-hours coverage may be required based on workload and staffing demands. Interventional Technologists are considered “Essential Employees” and may be required to report to work per health system policy. Physical, Mental, and Other Requirements

Physical: Lifting 20–50 lbs; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting; walking, repetitive motion; computer use. Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking; vision considerations. Emotional: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; manage multiple priorities; frequent and intense interactions; noisy environment; adaptability to change.
