Technical Designer II - Civic & Justice

NELSON is seeking a Technical Designer II to join the Civic & Justice Practice . The Technical Designer II is responsible for construction documentation and working with the project team to assist overall efforts of completing various project phases. The Technical Designer II provides support primarily in project administration, design development, and drawing production in all phases.
Experience in Civic & Justice building typologies is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working on projects such as Correction facilities, Jails, Prisons, Detention Centers, Courthouses, etc. Other preferred experience includes : municipalities, police and fire stations, city and county buildings, and other public works / public safety buildings.

Responsibilities
Complete small construction document sets using predetermined client standards and templates
Assist team members while conducting field surveys as required
Create basic details ability to document common architectural systems
Assist in the preparation of construction documents and specifications
Assist in the mapping out construction document requirements
Identify code requirements for common architectural systems, life safety, and ADA
Basic knowledge of project budget and schedules and responsibility to adhere to set parameters
Ability to work more independently on smaller projects and with supervision on larger more complex projects
Provide material, product, and system research and compile project data
Order samples and create material boards
Update design documents and incorporate “red lines” as needed
Prepare Addenda and Bulletin documentation
Maintain and update rack sets and projects records
Plot / Prepare drawings for digital transmittance to consultants, clients and / or contractor
Log Shop Drawings and assist in Shop Drawing comment translation
Follow NELSON standards and guidelines in the preparation of deliverables
Review your own work and make corrections prior completing an assignment
Maintain and archive electronic project files
Provide project administrative back-up (make copies, scanning documents, prepare packages for shipping, etc.) as required
Assist in the programming phases as directed
Assist with the schematic phases as directed (sketching, input of sketches, modification of schematic test fit plans, etc.)
Embrace specific steps to create, develop and promote a diverse workforce and to promote an inclusive environment
Required Knowledge and Skills
Basic knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and processes involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
Basic understanding of building regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirements
Basic understanding of the construction process
Basic understanding of project budgets and schedules
Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and processes involved in production of Construction Documents
Basic knowledge of the construction process as it relates to the drawings being produced
Ability to hand draw and sketch
Ability to communicate effectively. both verbally and in writing
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks as needed to complete within the identified time frame.
Ability to prioritize and effectively meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients
Proficiency in AutoCAD / Architectural Desktop and Revit are required
Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred
Basic proficiency in Deltek Vision VantagePoint
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or related field
Highly proficient in both Revit and AutoCAD
years' experience working in the field of Architecture
Must be deadline-oriented
Strong attention to detail
Architectural experience in : Community, Civic, Justice, and Education is strongly preferred, with experience in the production of challenging technical drawings.
Experience in Justice and Civic building typologies is strongly preferred. National salary range (regional cost of living, years of relevant experience, certifications, etc. are considered into the hiring process) : $, – $,; contingent upon relevant experience.
