NELSON Worldwide is seeking a
Technical Designer II
to join the
Civic & Justice Practice . The Technical Designer II is responsible for construction documentation and working with the project team to assist overall efforts of completing various project phases. The Technical Designer II provides support primarily in project administration, design development, and drawing production in all phases. Experience in Civic & Justice building typologies is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working on projects such as correction facilities, jails, prisons, detention centers, courthouses, and related public works/public safety buildings. Other preferred experience includes municipalities, police and fire stations, city and county buildings. Responsibilities
Complete small construction document sets using predetermined client standards and templates Assist team members while conducting field surveys as required Create basic details and document common architectural systems Assist in the preparation of construction documents and specifications Assist in mapping out construction document requirements Identify code requirements for common architectural systems, life safety, and ADA Understand basic project budgets and schedules; adhere to set parameters Work more independently on smaller projects and with supervision on larger, more complex projects Provide material, product, and system research and compile project data Order samples and create material boards Update design documents and incorporate redlines as needed Prepare addenda and bulletin documentation Maintain and update rack sets and project records Plot/prepare drawings for digital transmittance to consultants, clients and/or contractors Log shop drawings and assist in shop drawing comment translation Follow Nelson standards and guidelines in the preparation of deliverables Review own work and make corrections prior to completing an assignment Maintain and archive electronic project files Provide project administrative back-up as required (copies, scanning, packaging, shipping, etc.) Assist in programming phases as directed Assist with schematic phases as directed (sketching, input of sketches, modification of schematic test-fit plans, etc.) Embrace steps to create, develop and promote a diverse workforce and inclusive environment Required Knowledge And Skills
Basic knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and processes involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models Basic understanding of building regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirements Basic understanding of the construction process Basic understanding of project budgets and schedules Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and processes involved in production of Construction Documents Basic knowledge of the construction process as it relates to the drawings being produced Ability to hand draw and sketch Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop and Revit is required Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and InDesign preferred Basic proficiency in Deltek Vision/Vantage Point Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or related field Highly proficient in Revit and AutoCAD 5+ years of experience in architecture or related field Deadline-oriented with strong attention to detail Experience in Community, Civic, Justice, and Education sectors is strongly preferred, including production of challenging technical drawings Familiarity with Photoshop and/or InDesign preferred Benefits
