Job Details Title: Data Modeling Scientist II
Location: Great River, NY, USA, 11739
Position Summary Responsible for the design, development, documentation, and test of computer software applications that model ocean physics with an emphasis on underwater sound propagation. Interfaces with cross‑functional teams to develop algorithms and software solutions for high performance and high‑fidelity ocean response in a multinode client‑server architecture. The work focuses on developing computationally efficient algorithms that provide accurate estimates of signal propagation parameters such as time delay and transmission loss. Experience with numerical simulation of differential equations is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop or modify software application designs based on customer specifications and user requirements.
Maintain and support existing software baselines and system services.
Implement, integrate, and document software systems, subsystems, and services.
Support software testing, installation, and integration activities.
Demonstrate ability to complete a technical project independently and as part of a team.
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with engineering, program management and the customer as required.
Basic Qualifications
2+ years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. in a related field.
Must have an active Secret Clearance or higher clearance, or be able to acquire one.
Software experience in any of the following: Python, MATLAB, C++.
Education level: Minimum M.S.; Ph.D. highly desirable.
Degree area: Physics, Engineering, Applied Math, or Computer Science.
Experience with Linux OS configuration, operations, and software development environments is highly desirable.
Understanding of modular software architecture design and system software integration implementation.
Experience with full‑system software product life‑cycle programs including software design documentation, software test plan development and execution, and system software requirements verification.

Salary The annual base salary range for this position is $81,898.00 – $106,467.00. The salary range is a good‑faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant. Actual base salary may vary based on relevant experience, education, specialized skills, certifications, departmental budgets, market demands, geographic location, and other relevant job‑related factors.
Schedule 9/8/0 work schedule, every other Friday off.
