Position Summary
The Production Team Lead will coordinate and facilitate the daily operations of the assigned area(s) of responsibility to ensure business goals are met, following company policies and procedures. The role requires broad knowledge of cutting tools, troubleshooting complex turning operations, and a high-level understanding of CAD/CAM software and G-code. The position involves programming, setting up, troubleshooting lathes, and mentoring less experienced machinists.
Principle Responsibilities
Create and maintain CNC programs for various multi-axis CNC machines, including mill turns and lathes.
Develop setup documentation for shop floor operators/machinists and serve as a training resource, providing hands-on support.
Develop new production processes, revise existing ones, and provide technical expertise during Design For Manufacturing processes.
Identify and implement solutions to increase machine productivity and capability.
Collaborate with equipment and tooling vendors to adopt the best technologies for current and legacy operations.
Work with engineering and continuous improvement teams on process development and execution.
Support machine tool and process validation, ensuring robust and reliable processes in collaboration with quality and engineering teams.
Provide daily support at the Gemba, engaging proactively with operations to identify and solve problems at the source.
Act as a lead in assigned areas, mentoring less experienced machinists.
Drive waste reduction and continuous improvement initiatives using Lean methodology.
Lead daily production activities within the assigned area, ensuring commitments are met while implementing improvements.
Manage resources within the assigned value stream areas.
Assist in developing and communicating adherence to company policies and procedures within the team.
Ensure cross-training of employees and maintain the skills matrix.
Qualification Requirements
Credentials/Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.; Two-year degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years programming CNC lathes and 5 years of experience in a precision machining environment.
Familiarity with Windows Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience/Educational/Training Preferred:
1-3 years manufacturing experience preferred.
Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong interest in advanced manufacturing technology with the ability to research and develop solutions.
Solid understanding of manufacturing engineering fundamentals, including drawings, GD&T, DFMA, and process documentation.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, developing complex CNC programs, optimizing processes, and designing tooling and fixtures.
Knowledge of measurement systems and process capability.
Problem-solving skills in a shop floor environment.
Goal-oriented with the ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment.
Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate performance metrics.
Proficiency in office applications and word processing software.
Understanding of safety practices.
Strong customer service skills.
