Senior Aerospace Textile Engineer – Barrios Technology
Barrios Technology is a woman‑owned, small business that supports NASA and the aerospace community. We provide innovative integration solutions for spaceflight programs, working with NASA centers across the United States. This role is focused on deep‑space exploration and will contribute to NASA’s lunar and Martian missions.
Responsibilities
Provide expertise on non‑metallic and fibrous materials for soft goods exposed to high vacuum and extreme temperatures.
Lead development of non‑metallic materials for NASA programs, including space suits, spacecraft interior hardware, inflatable structures, and hygiene for lunar/martian environments.
Serve as subject‑matter expert in textile materials, guiding design, development, and qualification of advanced soft‑goods for next‑generation lunar and Martian space suits.
Support SBIR/STTR R&D activities related to non‑metallic and fibrous materials.
Review NASA reports, requirement documents, proposals, and technical literature.
Assist NASA Materials and Processes engineers in evaluating and selecting materials.
Perform testing and characterization of non‑metallic materials as needed.
Perform other duties as required.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Textile Engineering, Fiber Science, Materials Science, or related field).
10–15 years of experience in related aerospace or high‑performance applications.
U.S. citizenship and successful completion of a background investigation.
Compliance with the company’s drug‑free workplace policy.
Preferred Education & Experience
Master’s degree in relevant field.
Direct experience in textile manufacturing, including fiber‑to‑fabric and finishing processes.
Proven experience in product development from prototype to production.
Hands‑on knowledge of textile testing standards (ASTM, AATCC, ISO).
Experience with space suit materials or other high‑performance aerospace textiles.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Essential Requirements
Work may involve extended sitting, lifting up to 25 lbs, and occasional travel.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
