Job Description The In‑house Counsel will support First Bank & Trust on legal matters and related issues important in meeting the objectives of the organization and its affiliates.
Qualifications This person must have a bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctorate plus four years of experience or the equivalent. Additionally, a background in banking and/or financial compliance is desired. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required along with analytical and problem‑solving skills. This person must be able to work independently and as a team member in an environment requiring constant multi‑tasking and reprioritization. Excellent legal research and analysis skills are required.
Principle Responsibilities
Act as the initial contact for internal legal questions and issues, performing research and providing written and verbal analysis as directed by the General Counsel.
Act as a resource for staff processing garnishments, levies, subpoenas, and other requests for information, developing and maintaining internal procedures for handling of said matters.
Review and provide feedback on contracts assigned by the General Counsel, assisting in maintaining the listing of contract approval authority and compliance review for the contract database.
Revise and amend contracts and other corporate governance documents, administering periodic contract compliance reviews. Assist in the contractual aspects of vendor relationships per the Corporate Third‑Party Risk Management program and policy, and assist in risk analysis of vendor relationships as requested.
Obtain and organize items as requested by the appropriate regulator in preparation for upcoming examinations.
Assist in preparing quarterly litigation status reports for the Boards of Directors and preparing various corporate reports such as annual reports to the Division of Banking and Executive Officer resolutions.
Represent the Legal Department on standing and ad‑hoc groups, project teams, and committees as assigned by General Counsel.
Act in accordance with FBT policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook.
Adhere to compliance procedures and participate in required compliance training.
Employee must live in SD, NE, MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, MO or TX for this role.
Compensation Grade Salary Grade 6
