Cypress HCM
Sr Applications Engineer
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing startup in the aerospace/defense industry as a Senior Applications Engineer to lead design, prototyping, and production of mission-critical parts. In this hands‑on role, you’ll partner directly with DoD customers, leveraging SolidWorks, additive manufacturing, and reverse engineering to deliver rapid solutions. You’ll drive new designs, optimize existing ones, and provide on‑site technical leadership in forward‑operating environments.
Responsibilities:
Using SolidWorks, design custom mechanisms, structural components, and assemblies for UAS and non-UAS applications.
Modify, optimize, and reverse engineer parts for additive manufacturing, with emphasis on HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) production.
Operate 3D scanning systems to capture complex geometries, refine meshes, and generate solid models.
Perform Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) reviews and workshops with DoD customers and internal teams.
Perform metrology, quality inspections, and part evaluations using precision measurement tools and techniques.
Maintain databases of customer part files, build histories, and scan data for traceability and reuse.
Develop technical specifications and work instructions for internal builds and third‑party assemblies.
Operate and service additive manufacturing systems, completing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks.
Manage CAD data and release workflows with tools such as SolidWorks PDM, ARENA, and Teamcenter.
Configure, commission, and support deployment of mobile manufacturing container in the field.
Assist in manufacturing and assembling UAS platforms and associated hardware.
Provide engineering expertise to the Business Development team during customer engagements and proposal efforts.
Create and maintain technical documentation, manuals, and troubleshooting guides for internal and customer use.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, escape issues and collaborate on technical solutions.
Capture and escape technical insights from field operations to drive product improvements in collaboration with Software and Platform Engineering.
Prepare and deliver status reports and technical updates to internal teams and external government customers.
Support customer‑facing events and demonstrations as needed.
Requirements and Desired Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
5 or more years of experience as an applications or design engineer; preferably including experience with HP MJF systems.
2+ years of experience using metrology and inspection tools, with professional‑level quality control knowledge.
Hands‑on experience in additive manufacturing
2 years in a leadership or supervisory role, with experience leading technical teams, or managing engineering projects is a plus.
Prior experience designing or supporting commercial or military UAS platforms, delivering UAS systems to market in defense or commercial sectors or other related experience in aerospace or DoD‑related manufacturing environments, including prior work with spacecraft, or aircraft is a plus.
Analytical mindset, able to perform under pressure in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment
