Role Description Upsilon Gallery seeks a dynamic and experienced London Sales Director to promote our artists and lead and grow our global collector base, drive private and institutional sales, and strengthen our presence across major markets. Working alongside the Founder and Exhibition Director, this role is responsible for meeting sales targets, cultivating long-term relationships with high-net-worth collectors, institutions, and partnerships, and developing strategic sales initiatives aligned with the gallery’s programming and international expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute annual sales strategy to achieve and exceed gross sales targets
Maintain and grow relationships with existing collectors, advisors, institutions, and designers
Identify and secure new clients through proactive outreach, networking, and lead conversion
Prepare customized sales offers and proposals; drive negotiations to close sales, and practice impeccable follow-up communications
Conduct thorough
pricing research and comparables
analysis to establish and justify artwork values across the program
Regularly review secondary market trends and auction results to guide primary market pricing
Manage art fair and exhibition-related sales pipelines
Lead outreach campaigns and in-person walkthroughs for exhibitions and fairs
Maintain accurate and updated records of all sales activity and client interactions
Strategic Partnerships & Institutional Engagement
Identify and pitch artwork to relevant museum collections, curators, and acquisition committees
Lead coordination of formal proposals for acquisitions, donations, or loans
Partner with Managing Director on regional expansion, particularly in New York, London, and Milan
Drive pre-sales and collector engagement for all art fairs (Art Miami, The Armory Show, etc.)
Support booth curation strategy with artist and inventory planning
Ensure timely production of sales materials, price lists, and preview PDFs
The Ideal Candidate Will Have The Following Qualifications:
BA in Art History and/or Arts Administration, and at least 5 years of sales experience in an international art gallery, or auction house.
Proven ability to meet annual sales goal required.
Direct hands-on experience with, and knowledge of Modern, Post-war and Contemporary art.
Strong familiarity with client database systems, i.e. Artlogic.
Meticulous organization in client follow-up.
A self-starter with the ability to solve complex problems under tight deadlines and challenging situations.
Must have access to an existing collector base and art world network.
Driven, go-getter attitude with an ability to follow through with clients, always focusing on closing the sale.
Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Superior communication skills, both spoken and written.
Proven IT skills in all areas, including Microsoft Office Suite, with the aptitude to learn additional programs as needed.
Personable, well spoken, and experienced and comfortable accommodating high-end clientele.
