Director of Children’s Ministry
at St. Francis in the Fields! We are looking for a lay person with a deep love of Word and Sacrament, a rich devotional life, a heart for children’s formation, and the skills to build and run an engaging and effective Great Tradition Children’s Ministry. The ideal candidate will be organized, creative, and serious about life-long Christian formation, but will also be someone who loves fun and is able to laugh when the sheep go rogue in the Christmas Pageant.
About Us : St. Francis in the Fields is a growing Episcopal parish (Average Sunday Attendance: 400) in Louisville, Kentucky. We are committed to becoming the best place to engage deeply with the richness of Great Tradition Christianity. We believe that children’s formation is all about accessible depth: giving kids the chance to wonder, wrestle, and grow in the faith in a way that forms them as disciples in Christ now, and for a lifetime. We also believe in the importance of embodied worship, and that children need to encounter Jesus Christ in liturgy, sacraments, and as members of the community. Our new children’s minister will be joining a creative and energetic team of clergy and lay people excited about God’s call for the future.
About this Role : This full‑time position oversees all aspects of children’s formation, including:
Worship : Developing and implementing liturgical worship (Children’s Chapel) experiences for children who may not be developmentally ready to sit through the entire Sunday service; work with the Senior Associate Rector to offer sacramental preparation for families preparing for baptism; and drawing children into the liturgical life.
Formation : Planning and running Sunday school, Wednesday night formation, and Vacation Bible School for children Pre‑K‑5th grade, providing a fun space to teach the fundamentals of the faith, the story of Holy Scripture, and foster a love of Jesus Christ and his Church.
Childcare : Provide a safe and warm Nursery environment for Sunday morning and other parish events, including recruiting, training, and supervising nursery staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with all SafeChurch policies.
Family Ministry : Provide families the information, tools, and support to help their children grow in faith at home.
Feasts and Seasons : plan child/family friendly observances that get kids excited about the Christian year, including Michaelmas, All Hallows’, Candlemas, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, the Christmas Pageant, and more.
Collaboration : Partner with the St. Francis clergy, administration staff, and Children’s Choir Director to offer a cohesive vision of formation.
