Missoula College invites applications for an interim
Director of Fiscal and Personnel Services
to serve as the chief Academic Finance Officer (AFO) for the unit. The Director has fiduciary responsibilities for all funds allocated to the College, including general funds, restricted, designated, and University of Montana (UM) Foundation accounts. The position reports directly to the Assistant Vice Provost for Finance and Personnel with a dotted line relationship to the Dean of Missoula College. The role is accountable to both the Dean and the Assistant Vice Provost for ensuring compliance with the University of Montana and the Montana University System (MUS) fiscal and personnel policies.
Responsibilities
Serve as the liaison between Missoula College Dean’s Office and the College's administrative and budget personnel, chairs and directors, Human Resource Services, the Office of the Provost, Planning, Budget & Analysis, the University of Montana Foundation, research center financial staff, and other UM administrative offices as needed.
Directly supervise or oversee the work of all College administrative support personnel who assist in the areas of fiscal and personnel matters.
Independently develop and manage budgets, including planning, assessing, forecasting, consulting, and reporting for all financial accounts within Missoula College.
Work closely with and respond to fiscal planning needs and goals specified by the Missoula College Dean.
Support the Dean’s strategic financial planning goals.
Manage and coordinate personnel services for Missoula College.
Recruitment and onboarding
Ensure accuracy and consistency in all personnel transactions
Maintain compliance with University of Montana, Montana University System human resource policies and procedures, and the Missoula College Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Provide guidance to supervisors and staff on employment policies, performance management, and related personnel matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of related experience, including a strong background in accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with financial and human resource management systems, preferably in an academic setting.
Advanced knowledge of budgeting, financial planning, forecasting, reconciliation, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Proven ability to analyze financial data, identify trends or irregularities, and manage a diverse portfolio of funds and accounts.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with a commitment to accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting (or equivalent education and work experience), including accounting coursework.
Three (3) years of job‑related experience in office management in a supervisory capacity, with experience performing accounting functions in a financial management system.
Experience supervising staff and/or leading a team.
Experience in higher education and working knowledge of UM is preferred.
