Storm Duty Requirements Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response and recovery activities related to emergencies and disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, implementation and operation of analytics to monitor grid performance, including anomaly detection, time‑series forecasting, failure mode prediction, survival analysis, geospatial statistical analysis, event detection and classification, asset degradation modeling, causal inference, and statistical process control.

Leverage asset management and formal reliability engineering analytics to support safety, compliance, reliability, performance, affordability and resilience goals, prioritizing maintenance and measuring impact of maintenance actions, backlog, capital improvement and operational improvements.

Define the vision for analytics in the new Grid Diagnostic Center, collaborating with Technology (information & operational technology) departments to develop data pipelines and architectures that support large‑scale grid data acquisition, storage and processing (e.g., SCADA, AMI, LiDAR, thermography, weather).

Develop analytic functions for distribution grid models, coordinating with stake holders in Planning, DCC, DEO and others to represent and evaluate grid design and performance.

Develop analytics to support storm operations, improving damage estimation, outage tracking, restoration optimization and resource management.

Integrate statistical analysis and predictive modeling into grid reliability programs, communicating findings and recommendations to senior leadership, regulatory stakeholders and grid operators.

Mentor others and foster a collaborative environment focused on innovation and technical rigor.

Qualifications Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics or Statistics.

Preferred: Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in data science, statistics, engineering and/or information systems.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred: Certified Analytics Professional, ESRI GIS Certification, Python for Data Science, Reliability related certification.

Experience

Required: 7 years of progressive experience in data science, analytics, machine learning engineering, with at least 2 years in the utility, energy or related sector.

Preferred: Electric utility engineering and operational, distribution grid asset experience, and experience applying data science within interdisciplinary teams of engineers, field operators and IT.

Preferred: Advanced knowledge of programming (Python, R, SQL), tools/platforms (Databricks, Azure, Snowflake), data handling (ETL, cloud storage, APIs) and visualization (Power BI, ESRI Geospatial Analysis).

Knowledge of statistical models (regression, time‑series, survival analysis, Bayesian methods) and machine learning models (random forests, neural networks, gradient boosting). Ability to develop and validate model frameworks and communicate outcomes to non‑technical stakeholders.

Required Skills

Broad expertise in analytics and IT/OT system solutions, problem‑solving mindset, actionable outcomes focus.

Strong communication skills, ability to explain technical findings to non‑technical audiences.

Experience collaborating across operations, engineering, regulatory teams.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of digital twins, grid simulations, statistical model calibration and validation.

Experience with probabilistic risk assessment and early warning system design.

Machine learning expertise for high‑dimensional, multi‑source grid data (e.g., 3D LiDAR, imagery).

Working Conditions

Normal office environment; occasional work in an industrial environment. Travel within the Tampa Electric Service Area.
