Summary The full performance - Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist is assigned to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advanced technician for the Occupational Health Section - Primary Care Service. The incumbent performs ongoing patient care and administrative duties in an outpatient clinical setting within the Occupational Health Clinic. ICTs may perform tasks after proper education - training and competency - demonstrating knowledge - skills - and abilities.

Qualifications To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 10/24/2025. Individual Occupational Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists - speech pathologists - medical officers - and optometrists. Therefore - technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge - methods - and techniques of the position to be filled. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include - but are not limited to: Medical Review Officer (MRO) Assistant duties; occupational health services; clinical tasks; emergency care; patient screening; performs observation-based screening and collection of patient information - assists in behavioral and psychiatric situations - and operates specialized medical equipment. OR - Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. (Transcripts Required) NOTE: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school - 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Preferred Experience: At least 3 years of experience in MRO-Assistant duties and/or completion of MRO Team Member Training and Certification At least 1 year experience working in an Occupational Health Clinic (preferred) or other outpatient clinic setting Experience in the military as a military corpsman - combat medic - or medical technician Experience - training - and/or certification in medical documentation assistance (e.g. - scribing) Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices - hospitals - warehouses - and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing - in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds. The work required does not inherently include any physical requirements essential for successful job performance that could not otherwise be performed with accommodation or workplace adjustment. A pre-placement physical examination is not required.

Duties

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as Medical Review Officer (MRO) Assistant Obtains health - occupational - and immunization history - screen medical and occupational health history forms Performs Occupational Health patient screenings and intakes - assists licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation Performs observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel

Performs Vital Signs and Point of Care Testing

Performs visual acuity screening (i.e. - near and far visual acuity - depth perception - color vision) utilizing Snellen chart and specialized equipment (e.g. - Titmus machine) Measures patient weight and height The incumbent will complete approved templates and tools - such as normal result notes and follow up treatment protocols established by the agency

Assists with patient exams - structured interviews - and screenings

Recognizes life threatening situations and acts to correct these emergent situations according to established national or local protocols

The incumbent initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) and use of automatic external defibrillator (AED) once certified and where appropriate according to American Heart Association (AHA)protocols and policies

Observes patient status and keeps licensed personnel informed of any change in condition

Performs wound care i.e

bandaging - application of dressings Educates injured staff on first-aid treatments (e.g. - application of ice) Handles clerical/administrative support & coordination requirements Provides medical documentation assistance - such as transcribing immunization documentation in the Employee Medical File (EMF) - entering standard laboratory orders under physician/LP name in CPRS (e.g. - immunization titers) Serves as scribe for employee health encounters (e.g. - vaccination encounters in OHRS) Coordinates and sets up Occupational Health appointments - including pre-placement - periodic exams (driver - police - boiler plant operator) - medical surveillance - etc

Reviews and coordinates patient scheduling - equipment maintenance - and maintains specific level of medical and administrative supplies with the Occupational Health Clinic Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:30am - 4:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position
