Pay Range $50,694.00/yr - $65,906.00/yr

Job Summary The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist is assigned to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This advanced technician serves the Occupational Health Section – Primary Care Service, performing ongoing patient care and administrative duties in an outpatient clinical setting within the Occupational Health Clinic.

Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement (10/24/2025). Eligibility can be based on specialized experience or education:

Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS‑06 grade level in a federal occupational setting, such as MRO Assistant duties, occupational health services, clinical tasks, emergency care, patient screening, observation‑based screening, behavioral and psychiatric support, and operation of specialized medical equipment.

Education: One full year of graduate education directly related to the position (required transcripts) may substitute for required experience. This requirement is generally satisfied by 18 semester hours or the institution’s full‑time credit calculation.

Preferred Experience: At least 3 years in MRO‑Assistant duties and/or completion of MRO Team Member Training and Certification; at least 1 year of experience working in an Occupational Health Clinic or similar outpatient setting; experience as a military corpsman, combat medic, or medical technician; and training or certification in medical documentation assistance (e.g., scribing).

Physical Requirements The work is sedentary with occasional walking/standing. The incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds. Physical requirements are not essential for successful job performance and can be accommodated.

Duties

Serve as Medical Review Officer (MRO) Assistant, obtain health, occupational, and immunization history, and screen medical and occupational health history forms.

Perform Occupational Health patient screenings and intakes, assisting licensed staff with patient preparation for medical evaluation.

Conduct observation‑based screening and collect patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel.

Perform vital signs and point‑of‑care testing.

Perform visual acuity screening (near, far, depth perception, color vision) using Snellen chart and specialized equipment such as the Titmus machine; measure patient weight and height.

Complete approved templates and tools, such as normal result notes and follow‑up treatment protocols established by the agency.

Assist with patient exams, structured interviews, and screenings.

Recognize life‑threatening situations and act to correct emergent situations according to established national or local protocols.

Initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) and use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) when certified and appropriate per American Heart Association (AHA) protocols and policies.

Observe patient status and inform licensed personnel of any changes in condition.

Perform wound care, including bandaging and dressing application; educate injured staff on first‑aid treatments (e.g., ice).

Handle clerical and administrative support and coordination requirements; provide medical documentation assistance, such as transcribing immunization documentation into the Employee Medical File (EMF) and entering standard laboratory orders under physician or LP name in CPRS.

Serve as a scribe for employee health encounters (e.g., vaccination encounters in OHRS).

Coordinate and set up Occupational Health appointments, including pre‑placement, periodic exams (driver, police, boiler plant operator), medical surveillance, etc.

Review and coordinate patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, and maintain specific levels of medical and administrative supplies with the Occupational Health Clinic.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. This is not a virtual position.
