Description Salary depends on education and/or experience. The 2025 hiring range is $79,539 - $108,118 Annually. Applicants must be Colorado P.O.S.T. certified by January 1, 2026. The position does not include a Police Academy; certification is required before the applicant is considered eligible. Responsibilities

Ensures the health, safety and security of inmates, staff, visitors, and the public inside the facility. Maintains interior and exterior security of the Detention Facility and persons contained therein. Conducts inmate escorts and transports. Receives, processes and releases inmates, including inventorying and releasing their property. Conducts accurate head counts to ensure proper accounting and allocation of inmates. Supervises inmate activities within the facility for extended periods of time. Maintains life functions for inmates, including laundry, meals, time in the dayroom, and hygiene products. Monitors and inspects the facility for contraband, maintenance issues, and overall condition. Conducts investigations of incidents and criminal offenses that occur within the facility and gathers related facts and statements. Conducts scheduled and random searches of inmates, cells, and the facility. Physically restrains inmates using control holds, handcuffs and other restraints when necessary. Appears in court to provide testimony. Ensures that emergency/evacuation procedures are followed in the event of an occurrence. Maintains the functions of electronic control rooms, operates control panels, and observes video monitors. Operates computers and standard office equipment. Maintains regular and acceptable attendance as determined by the Sheriff’s Office. Is willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required. Performs duties onsite, except those customarily performed offsite. Follows the mission, values, policies, and procedures of the Sheriff’s Office. Interacts effectively with others. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

Working knowledge of law‑enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. Working knowledge of the agency’s policies, procedures and methods. Knowledge of Federal, State and County law. Ability to maintain firearms proficiency standards. Ability to safely operate a County vehicle. Ability to define community policing as an evolving strategy. Ability to acquire and use related office and field equipment. Proficiency with computers. Ability to complete mandatory training. Ability to act with tact and impartiality. Ability to read and understand applicable laws. Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately to emergencies. Ability to protect self and others in threatening situations. Ability to physically subdue and control unruly individuals. Good psychological and physical condition required for law‑enforcement duties. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, court officials, suspects, witnesses and the public. Ability to pass an annual physical test. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Minimum Qualifications

High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Experience: No specific experience required. OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience that satisfies the job requirements as approved by the Sheriff. Certifications / Licenses: Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification. Preferred Qualifications

College coursework in criminal justice. 2 years of experience working in a detention facility. Special Requirements

Must possess current CPR and First Aid certifications within the probationary period. Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License. Must be at least 21 years old. Must work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. Must maintain current P.O.S.T. certification. Physical Demands

Spends 90% of the time standing, walking or running and 10% sitting while working in housing areas, control rooms or booking areas. Can carry a human being from a hazardous area (average 150 lbs). Can push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle and feel during daily duties. Can restrain a combative or resisting subject. Excellent oral and auditory capacity for communication. Good visual and fine/gross motor skills for operation of firearms, equipment and monitoring tools. Supplemental Information

This role involves hazards such as crime, accidents, fires and disturbances. Work is stressful during peak activity periods. Contact with inmates, suspects and the public is daily. The position may require immediate response to medical emergencies. Rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays may be required. Bio‑hazard Notice

Work will include rotational and stationary shifts as needed. Duty Assignments

All applicants are employed at the pleasure of the Sheriff. Assignments may be at any bureau, section, or unit at the Sheriff’s discretion. Initial Status Period of Employment

Successful applicants have a twelve‑month initial status period for evaluation, training and adjustment. Policy on Reapplication
