The 2025 hiring range is $79,539 - $108,118 annually. Salary depends on education and/or experience. You must be Colorado P.O.S.T. certified by December 31, 2025 to be eligible for this position. This application process is for our January 2026, In-House Mini Academy. Applicants will be required to pass a physical fitness test. All candidates hired for this academy will receive a $2,250 sign-on bonus, plus up to $800 per month for childcare reimbursement during initial training while grant funds are available (conditions apply). This is an appointed position that works at the pleasure of the Sheriff. The position is responsible for performing a variety of complex law enforcement duties, enforcing Federal and State laws and County ordinances to protect life, health, safety, welfare and property. Performs routine patrol duties to prevent, detect, and respond to suspicious or illegal activity; responds to calls for service on emergency or non-emergency basis. Conducts initial investigations of crime scenes/incidents to obtain pertinent facts and information. Conducts interviews of witnesses, victims, participants, or suspects at the scene of an incident or crime. Collects and preserves evidence and property at the incident or crime scene. Arrests suspects involved in misdemeanor/felony activity; writes citations for minor violations. Prepares reports, forms, and documents related to patrol activities. Uses in-car computer system to write reports, self-dispatch to calls, obtain call history and records on contacted individuals. Appears in court as witness/complainant to provide testimony. Provides assistance and support to persons in need during non-law enforcement emergencies and non-emergency situations. Maintains a high standard of safety and compliance with Sheriff\'s Office policies; reports safety violations as required. Maintains regular attendance and is willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Follows and supports the Sheriff\'s Office mission, values, and policies; exercises good judgment with the public in sensitive situations. Performs duties regularly assigned to the Sergeant level in the absence of the Sergeant; may act as incident commander until a higher ranking person assumes command. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. Working knowledge of agency policies, procedures, and methods. Working knowledge of Federal and State law, and County ordinances. Ability to maintain proficiency with firearms; safely operate a county vehicle in normal and adverse conditions. Ability to engage in community policing as an evolving strategy emphasizing partnerships with neighborhoods. Ability to operate related office and field equipment, use computers as required, and complete in-service training. Ability to act with tact and impartiality; read and understand applicable laws; remain calm in emergencies; protect oneself and others; physically subdue and control resisting individuals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, colleagues, court officials, suspects, witnesses, other law enforcement officials, and the public. Ability to pass annual physical testing; communicate effectively in verbal and written English. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. EXPERIENCE: No specific experience required, or any equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by the Sheriff. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Colorado P.O.S.T. certification. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: College coursework in criminal justice. 2 years of experience as a peace officer. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess CPR and First Aid certifications within probationary period. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver\'s License. Must be 21 years of age. Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. Must possess current Colorado P.O.S.T. certification, or out-of-state equivalent. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
