The Nurse Practitioner-OB/GYN manages and coordinates nursing and patient care in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. This role provides diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, including evaluations, under physician supervision. The NP develops and implements care plans addressing physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs, serving as an informational resource to patients, families, and staff. It also involves making appropriate referrals to physicians and allied health professionals. Responsibilities
Evaluate and manage uncomplicated obstetrical patients, including prenatal and postpartum care (excluding labor, delivery, admitting, or operating room privileges). Monitor fetal well-being with Doppler and blood tests during office visits. Order and interpret fetal surveillance tests such as ultrasounds and non-stress tests. Maintain current knowledge of guidelines to manage pregnancies with conditions like gestational diabetes, hypertension, obesity, prior cesarean, anemia, and substance abuse. Recognize high-risk pregnancies and refer accordingly. Provide group prenatal care for cohorts with similar social or educational concerns. Evaluate and treat gynecologic conditions, focusing on breast and cervical health, vulvovaginitis, cervicitis, etc. Manage referred patients with gynecologic issues such as abnormal bleeding, PCOS, pelvic pain, menopausal symptoms, and urinary incontinence, and refer for surgical or medical treatment as needed. Offer family planning counseling and management, including prescribing hormonal methods, inserting/removing IUDs and implants, and counseling for surgical options. Order and review gynecologic ultrasounds and microscopic exams to aid diagnosis and care planning. Perform procedures such as endometrial, vulvar, and punch biopsies, I&D of abscesses, pessary placement, and colposcopy as qualified. Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited nursing school with a Master of Science degree or from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current Indiana nursing license or eligibility. Collaborative agreement with an affiliated physician group. Current Indiana Controlled Substance and Drug Enforcement Registration.
