Overview The City of Lake Alfred is seeking a
Utilities Service Worker III
to join our Public Works team. This position involves advanced technical work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems. The role includes operating heavy equipment, installing and troubleshooting system components, and ensuring reliable service for the community.
What You’ll Do
Perform construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater lines and equipment
Operate heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, and cranes
Install and maintain hydrants, valves, meters, backflow devices, and other system components
Utilize advanced technologies such as pipe bursting, slip lining, tapping machines, and televising equipment
Ensure safety compliance, including confined space entry and trench safety procedures
Respond to emergency situations and assist with system reliability under all conditions
What We’re Looking For
High school diploma or equivalent
At least 2 years of experience in water distribution or wastewater collection construction (or equivalent training/education)
Strong knowledge of DOT rules, construction practices, and utility maintenance tools
Ability to read maps, blueprints, and engineering drawings; effective teamwork and communication skills
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Florida CDL License
Valid Class “C” Certification in Wastewater Collection or Water Distribution (issued by DEP) preferred
