HDR NY/NJ Transportation Business Group is seeking to hire a Civil/Highway Project Engineer to work on Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build Projects. The primary duties of the Civil/Highway Project Engineer include leading teams to produce design criteria, plans, calculations, cost estimates, and specifications for highway and/or site/civil projects. The candidate should be a team player ready to work collaboratively within the NY/NJ Civil/Highway Section. Familiarity with local and national codes, standards, and specifications is essential. As a Civil/Highway Engineer, your responsibilities will include: Leading the technical delivery of projects from concept to final design. Working independently or as part of a team. Participating in design development meetings with internal and sub-consultant teams to ensure quality and consistency. Overseeing, mentoring, and reviewing junior staff work. Coordinating workload and ensuring timely, within-budget project completion. Performing Project Engineer duties, including financial responsibilities, progress reports, and schedule updates. Preferred Qualifications MS or BS in Civil Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of design experience in roadway design, including geometry, utility, drainage, grading, and traffic management. NY or NJ PE license is preferred. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation, Inroads, and Microsoft Office. Experience with clients such as PANYNJ, NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NJDOT, NYC Parks, or NJTA. Strong technical skills and the ability to mentor staff and review work for quality. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Leadership qualities and client engagement skills. Commitment to our employee-owned culture. Knowledge of project scheduling software. Participation in professional engineering communities. Preference for local candidates. Required Qualifications Previous experience in roadway engineering design. Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license. Hands-on experience with CAD software such as Bentley ConceptStation, Open Roads Designer, Autodesk Infraworks, or Civil 3D. Proficiency with MS Office. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, and site planning.
