CHARGE NURSE, OPERATING ROOM- RIVER OAKS HOSPITAL & CLINICS (Houston)

OB SUMMARY
The OR Charge Nurse in this position is responsible for the daily to day operations of the OR department. The incumbent will promote a strong team atmosphere through motivation, coaching, and conflict management. When acting as Circulator, the incumbent will provide nursing care during surgery cases. Will administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Creating a healthy work atmosphere that promotes both team and individual growth. Constantly monitoring the workplace to ensure that all company policies and procedures are being maintained. Supervises and coordinates shift operations to include staffing assignments. Assigns workloads appropriate to patient activity. Appropriately delegates duties and responsibilities to other members of the staff necessary to support the recovery of a patient and ensures that departmental tasks are completed. Fosters an environment that focuses on values, autonomy, and accountability where staff and management participate as partners in the decision-making process. Will prioritize urgent/emergent cases, while finishing the day's elective scheduled cases, and communicate with surgeons and anesthesia throughout the shift to coordinate cases with all applicable teams. Maintains basic knowledge and skills in post anesthesia recovery. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment, interpreting and recording data from devices regarding intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, and cardiac rhythms from cardiac monitors, respirators, ventilators, oxygen pumps, etc. Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol. Handles floor stock medications or medications delivered from pharmacy directly or through the pneumatic tube station. Relocates these medications, in original containers, to designated secure storage locations. Demonstrates responsibility for own personal and professional growth as reflected by professional-development activities and unit projects. Attends and participates in in-service programs. Acts as role model to staff. Performs other related work as required or requested.
REQUIREMENTS Current State R.N. license, BLS required, ACLS/PALS BSN with two 3+ years' experience as a RN Circulator or an Operating Room Nurse. 2+ Yrs in a Nurse Leadership Role. Experience must demonstrate development of leadership competencies that include team leading and managing complex and potentially confrontational situations. Current BLS/CPR,ACLS and PALS (AHA) required
EDUCATION BSN MSN preferred.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE Texas R.N. License BLS (American Heart Assoc.) required, ACLS/PALS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES Above average ability to plan and implement patient care, Ability to make sound nursing judgement based on nursing theory. Awareness of peri-operative role of nurse. Working knowledge and experience in hospital operating room or ambulatory surgery center nursing care. Working knowledge of standard operating room machinery, equipment, autoclaves, washer sterilizer, medical gas canisters, and patient monitors. Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, surgical instrumentation or equipment.
